GF82.60-P-2002QJB CD-Player Mode, Function
- with CODE (498) Japan version

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is equipped with an integrated digital versatile disk (DVD) drive for loading navigation data and for playing audio CDs.

CD changer mode (models 209.34/44 with code (819) 6-disk CD changer)
The CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) is located within the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) and is controlled via the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). Only valid audio CDs can be played. If the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is switched on, the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) scans the CDs as soon as the user inserts a magazine, i.e. the player reads in the CDs available.

After scanning the magazine, the 1st CD or the next available CD is loaded. Each CD contains a permanently stored table of contents (TOC entry). The CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) reads the data in this table of contents. As a result, the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) clearly recognizes the particular CD and is able to automatically name it after the one-time user allocation of the title (even if the CD is subsequently inserted in another insertion slot). The table of contents (TOC record) additionally contains information regarding the number of tracks on a CD and the audio CD's total playing time.
The control signals of the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) are sent digitally by the MOST to the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).

The audio signals are also relayed via MOST for amplification to the audio gateway control unit (N93/1) or to the sound amplifier (A2/13) (models 209.34/44 with code (810) Sound system). Following the final amplification, the audio signals are output directly via the vehicle speakers.

Data CDs are not recognized when the CD player scans the CD magazine. The magazine slot is first evaluated as occupied (only valid CD formats are recognized), but the display shows that the magazine is empty as soon as the user tries to select a CD.

Track 1 is always played when CD-mode is first selected and after selecting a new CD. The following functions are available:
^ Change magazine
^ Select CD
^ Track skip
^ Search CD and relative time of played CD
^ "Scan" function
^ "Random" function
^ "Repeat" function
^ Stop mode, Pause mode

In order to conserve power, the motor of the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) is shut off in Stop mode and in Pause mode. If the user leaves the CD player mode, the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) continues the read operation (scan) in the background. The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is informed about the contents of the CD magazine once the scan is complete. Only the CD playback is interrupted by traffic announcements and information provided by the navigation system. The CD playback continues at the same place it was paused at the end of the traffic and navigation messages.

Playback of an audio CD in MP3 format
The designation "MP3" is an abbreviation for MPEG 1 Audio Layer 3 and describes an audio compression standard that permits digital music signals to be compressed to approx. 8 % of the original data quantity.

This takes place with almost no audible difference to the original signal (audio CD). In the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6), it is possible to play conventional audio CDs and also audio CDs in the MP3 format. A conventional audio CD is emulated (simulated).

Device identification
The following data is stored for device identification purposes:
^ A = MB part number
^ B = Hardware status (calendar week, year)
^ C = Software status (calendar week, year)
^ D = Supplier identification (Alpine. 32)
^ D = Diagnosis recognition (diagnosis software status)
^ E = Production date (YY.MM.DD)

Diagnosis function
The CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) features a diagnosis mode so that the MOST components can be tested and any faults can be located during installation and so that any faults that occur during operation can be reproduced. The CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) remains operational during diagnosis.

Fault memory:
Any occurring faults are detected and stored by the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6). The memory contents are stored even when the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is switched off and the voltage supply is disconnected. The fault memory must be erased separately.

A distinction is made between faults that still exist (e.g. in the hardware) and faults that no longer exist (faults which occurred for a short time).

Fault information, freeze frame data
^ Type of fault
^ Existing faults
^ Frequency of fault occurrence
