GF82.85-P-3001QMU Voice Output, Function
- with CODE (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system)
Component Identification:
The navigation of the navigation system (based on digital versatile disk (DVD) data basis) is basically assisted by the following voice outputs:
^ Direction information
^ Name of road which is to be turned into next
The compass direction (North, South, East and West) is specified for navigation. No compass direction is specified for roads described by names (e.g. in towns).
The voice data of the navigation DVD stored as individual word segments is automatically transmitted from the DVD into the navigation processor of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and stored there. In the navigation processor the word segments are combined into complete instructions and information and corresponding low frequency (LF) signals are produced. The low frequency signals thus generated are passed on if necessary internally to the audio signal processing and transmitted to the sound amplifier (A2/13) via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST).
The audio signals are amplified there and output via the vehicle speakers.
Several driving recommendations in quick succession are combined into a single voice output.
Manual language loading from the DVD
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) has various languages:
^ German
^ British English
^ American English
^ French
^ Spanish
^ Italian
^ Dutch
^ Swedish
^ Danish
^ Portuguese
The language can be selected in the menu "System adjustments". The data for the voice output is then transmitted from the DVD to the navigation processor of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and stored there in a non-volatile manner.
Loading the language takes a few seconds and changes both the voice output and the menu texts on the display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). Voice loading takes place again automatically after a power disconnection.
While a language is being loaded by the DVD, severe vibrations (e.g. bad road conditions) should be avoided. Otherwise the voice output might be broken up. In such cases it is necessary to reload the language.
Voice output superimposed with another audio source
If an audio source (e.g. CD, radio) is active simultaneously with the voice output, the two signal sources are superimposed.
Volume of voice output
The voice output volume can be adjusted during voice output . A definable difference (can be modified in "Settings" menu) is maintained between the volume of the current audio source and the voice output volume .
The volume is reduced during a voice output, for example. If this results in the specified volume difference to the audio signal not being reached, thereupon the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) reduces the level of the audio signal until the specified volume difference is regained. After voice output has taken place, the volume of the audio signal is increased to match that of the voice output. The volume of the voice output cannot be reduced to below a certain minimum level.
Voice output muting
The navigation voice output can be muted during a voice output by pressing the "Mute" button. The mute feature applies only for the current voice output. If an audio source (CD, radio etc.) is to be listened to simultaneously with the navigation voice output, with the 1st pressure on the "Mute" button the navigation voice is muted, and with the 2nd button pressure the complete playback is muted.
