Function requirements:
^ No overvoltage or undervoltage
^ Enabled Subscriber identification module (SIM) card
^ Correct personal identification number (PIN) entry and successful log-in
With the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system, all calls are made with the portable CTEL (A34/6) via the hands-free system.
With the UPCI system it is possible to operate different portable CTELs (A34/6) such as Nokia, Siemens or Motorola in the vehicle. Only the respective UPCI portable CTEL holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) (A34/15) has to be replaced to do this.
The UPCI system consists of the following components:
^ Audio device (e.g. radio (A2) (standard equipment))
^ UPCI Portable CTEL holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) (A34/15)
^ Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit (N123/1)
^ E-net compensator (A28/3)
^ Hands-free system microphone group (A67b1) Telephone antenna (A2/22) (model 209.4, model 209.3 up to 31.5.06) or telephone antenna (A2/49a1) (model 209.3 as of 1.6.06)
^ Portable CTEL (A34/6) (with code (388) Telephone "Handy", UPCI system)
^ Bluetooth antenna (A2/91) (vehicles up to 31.5.06 without code (387) Preinstallation for telephone "Handy", UPCI system, USA/Canada)
The portable CTEL (A34/6) is connected to the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) of the vehicle via the UPCI portable CTEL holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) (A34/15).
The UPCI system supports the following functions:
^ SIM check after a fault and a lock status
^ PIN entry using the telephone buttons on the audio device as well as using the portable CTEL (A34/6) buttons
^ Set up telephone connections in handsfree mode.
^ Display of telephone numbers and caller ID in the portable CTEL (A34/6) display, in the multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1) and in the display of the audio device
^ Personal Unblocking Key (PUK) entry using the telephone buttons on the portable CTEL (A34/6)
^ Display of provider names (e.g. "T-D1", "E-Plus"), reception status, roaming status and call duration on display of audio device
^ Display of the telephone numbers stored in the respective portable CTEL (A34/6) via the multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1) and selection of telephone numbers using the scroll forward/back button (S110s1) and the system selection button (S110s3)
^ Wireless integration of state-of-the-art Bluetooth terminals (vehicles up to 31.5.06 without code (387) Preinstallation for telephone "Handy", UPCI system, USA/Canada)
The UPCI system is activated by one of the following actions:
^ Actuation of the On/Off button on the portable CTEL (A34/6)
^ Automatically by a wake-up pulse over MOST, which is initiated by the audio device
^ Activation of "circuit 15R ON" status
The UPCI system is deactivated by one of the following actions:
^ Actuation of the ON/OFF button on the portable CTEL (A34/6)
^ Automatically, following expiration of the run-on time individually configurable on the portable CTEL (A34/6)
^ After removing the transmitter key (A8/1) and following expiration of the run-on time individually configurable on the portable CTEL (A34/6)
The telephone call can be accepted by pressing the following buttons:
^ "Accept phone call" button on the portable CTEL (A34/6)
^ Accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3) on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL)
^ "Accept phone call" button in the control panel of the audio device
A telephone call can be terminated by pressing the following buttons:
^ "Terminate phone call" button on the portable CTEL (A34/6)
^ Accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3) on the MFL.
^ "Terminate phone call" button in the control panel of the audio device.
Input of voice commands takes place using the hands-free system microphone group (A67b1) when the portable CTEL (A34/6) has been inserted into the corresponding UPCI [UHI] portable CTEL holder (Universal Handy Interface) (A34/15).
Voice output takes place via the following audio speakers:
^ Left door front speaker (H4/1)
^ Right door front speaker (H4/2)
^ Left door rear speaker (H4/5)
^ Right door rear speaker (H4/6)
^ Left front door mirror triangle speaker (H4/23)
^ Right front door mirror triangle speaker (H4/24)
To be able to produce as distortion-free a voice command input as possible by the user over the hands-free system microphone group A67b1), the volume of the audio device is initially reduced for an incoming call and muted when the call is accepted.
The volume of the hands-free system can be individually adjusted by the user using the portable CTEL (A34/6) or via the multifunction steering wheel (MFL) using the + and - button, setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1).
