GF82.60-P-2003P Volume/Tone Adjustments, Function
- with CODE (352a) COMAND operating and display system
- except CODE (491) U.S. version
- except CODE (498) Japan version
In connection with the COMAND, operating, display and control unit (A40/3) a distinction must be made between audio sources and service sources.
Audio sources are
^ Radio tuner
^ CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6)
Service sources include:
^ Traffic radio announcement
^ Telephone system (option)
^ Voice control system (VCS) (option)
^ Voice output with navigation system
Volume setting
Changing the volume of an audio source has an identical effect on all other audio sources. The volume is also jointly regulated within the service sources in the same manner.
The volume of voice output for navigation can be changed during voice output. An adjustable interval (in menu "Settings") between the audio signal volume and the voice output volume is maintained automatically. This means that voice output remains easily audible even in the case of loud audio output.
Tone setting
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) allows manual tone settings (bass/treble) for each audio source.. The tone setting selected for the radio mode simultaneously applies to the traffic radio announcement. Settings which are selected for voice output during navigation also influence the voice control system (VCS).
In addition, the following 3 preset tone settings can be called up without code (810) Sound system
^ Pop
^ Classic
^ Language
With code (810) Sound system, the following tone optimizations are possible:
^ Standard
^ Ambient low
^ Ambient medium
^ Ambient high
^ Language
^ Driver optimized
With a change in sound emphasis (balance, fader) the ratio of the volume of the individual speakers changes.
The signal processing required for the volume and tone settings is undertaken by the audio components integrated in the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).
If the vehicle is also equipped with code (810) sound system, the sound amplifier (A2/13) is responsible for final application of the audio signals.
Speed-dependent volume control/dynamic range optimization
The volume of the background noise in the vehicle interior is matched via the speed-dependent volume control (SDV) and automatic vehicle interior noise adaptation by Dynamic Range Optimization (DRO). In the process the vehicle speed signal and signal input to the sound amplifier microphone (B25/6) are used as a relationship indicator.
