Component Identification:

Gear indicator (A1p12) in instrument cluster (A1):
The gear currently engaged 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, R or N is displayed to the driver. The display 0 takes place when the vehicle is stationary for a shift operation without depressing the brake pedal. Symbol N is displayed by operating the brake pedal. Display A takes place if automatic shift operation is selected by the driver.

Permanent system monitoring by the automated manual transmission control unit (N15/6) detects any faults occurring. If a detected fault switches the system to limp-home mode, the symbol "F" is displayed in the instrument cluster (A1p12) and the fault code associated with the fault is stored in the automated manual transmission control unit (N15/6).
If several faults occur simultaneously, the panel on the multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1) displays the text information for the fault with the highest priority.

The associated warning message appears as well as a warning tone appears for the following situations:
^ When the vehicle is stopped in drive mode N the warning message "Apply parking brake" appears in red and the symbol N in the gear indicator (A1p12), in addition the warning buzzer (A1h1) is actuated intermittently (missing at times).
^ When the driver door is open when the engine is running and gear is engaged the warning message "Engage N" appears in yellow and the gear currently engaged appears in the gear indicator (A1p12), in addition the warning buzzer (A1h1) is actuated intermittently (missing at times).
^ When the engine is started with a gear engaged the warning message "Engage N for starting" appears in yellow and the gear currently engaged appears in the gear indicator (A1p12)The warning buzzer (A1h1) is not actuated.
^ When the engine is started with the gear engaged (after shifting previously into drive mode "N") the warning message "Engage N Request gear again" appears in yellow and the gear currently engaged appears flashing in the gear indicator (A1p12). The warning buzzer (A1h1) is not actuated.
^ If the system limp-home is actuated, the warning message "Transmission limp-home - consult workshop" appears in red and the gear currently engaged appears in the gear indicator (A1p12). The warning buzzer (A1h1) is not actuated.
^ In the event of a system error or system failure the warning message "Visit workshop." appears in red and the symbol F appears in the gear indicator (A1p12). The warning buzzer (A1h1) is not actuated.
