GF91.60-P-4015-02Q Rear Side Airbag - Function
- with CODE (293) Left and right rear side airbag

Operating procedure
When the triggering threshold is exceeded by a side impact, the left rear side airbag is triggered via the left rear side airbag squib (R12/11) or the right rear side airbag is triggered via the right rear side airbag squib (R12/12) together with the corresponding front side airbags and the window airbags.

After recognition of the triggering threshold by the left side airbag and window airbag sensor (A53/1) or right side airbag and window airbag sensor (A54/1) the respective side airbag is actuated and triggered by the associated squib via the restraint systems control unit (N2/7).

The compressed inert gas mixture now escapes from the pressure vessel and is led into the airbag via the exhaust vents.
Under the pressure of the inflowing gas the inflating airbag tears open the side airbag housing and the predetermined fracture area in the side paneling and unfolds into the interior.

The airbag reaches its full volume within approx. 20 ms.
Once maximum volume is reached, pressure is decreased in the airbag immediately. The gas escapes from the airbag via a filter and the airbag collapses.
