GF82.85-P-2030TXU Audio Mode, Function
- with CODE (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system)
- Radio, CD, SDAR

Radio mode, function
After the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) has been switched on, the antennas in the rear window receive high frequency (HF) signals for ultra-short wave (FM) and medium wave (MW). Modulated onto these RF [HF] signals are the music voice or data signals. The left antenna amplifier module (A2/64) filters the radio frequency band frequencies from the received RF [HF] signals and amplifies them.
The amplified signals are then transmitted by the left antenna amplifier module via a coaxial line to the 2 radio tuners in the audio gateway control unit (N93/1).
The 2 radio tuners separate the useful information (audible frequencies) from the carrier signal (not audible). The demodulated audio signals are amplified and converted into sound signals by the vehicle speakers.

Antenna diversity, function
In the case of the "antenna diversity" function, reception-dependent switching over is carried out between the FM antennas of the rear window. The function runs automatically and is carried out by the left antenna amplifier module. The 2 radio tuners in the audio gateway control unit merely generate the intermediate frequency (IF [ZF]) signal which serves as a reference for changing the FM antenna.

2-receiver technology function
The 2nd (integrated) radio receiver in the audio gateway control unit automatically generates a list of FM stations received after the COMAND operating, display and controller unit is switched on; the list is constantly updated during operation.

Station selection options are:
^ automatic station search with scan function (the stations of one waveband are played for 8 s)
^ Station search on multifunction steering wheel (MFL)
^ Manual station search
^ Station selection using list of stations
^ Station selection using numeric keyboard
^ Station selection using frequency input
^ station selection from the memory (10 stations per waveband)

Satellite digital audio radio (satellite radio) (SDAR), with code (536) SIRIUS satellite radio
Together with SDAR, the SDAR control unit (N87/5) and the SDAR antenna (A2/49a4) are installed in the vehicle. The SDAR control unit permits, in combination with the SDAR antenna, the reception of stations from the provider "Sirius satellite radio".

Since modification year 07/1 the SDAR control unit (3rd generation) has been used, which is now also available for vehicles with code (460) Additional parts, Canadian vehicles. The SDAR control unit (3rd generation) differs from previous generations through the following features:
^ Shorter response times
^ Improved reception properties
^ Temperature and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) properties have been optimized

DVD and CD mode, function
The COMAND operating, display and controller unit is equipped with an integrated DVD drive for playing audio and video CDs an audio and navigation DVDs. It is also possible to play audio data in MP3 format.
In addition to playing back audio signals, the COMAND controller unit provides the following functions in DVD and CD mode:
^ "Random" function
All tracks on a CD or DVD are played according to the random principle.
^ "Repeat" function
A track, CD, or DVD can be repeated if required.
^ "Scan" function
The tracks on a CD or DVD are played for t = 8 s. After this has been run through completely, the scan function is automatically terminated.
^ "Select next/previous" function
The system only jumps forward or backward to the next or previous track; no audio signals can be heard in the process.
^ "Music search" function
The music that is being played is audible during music search. This enables certain sections of a track to be played or skipped.
^ "Track list" function
The required track is selected via the COMAND display and confirmed.

In addition to the listed functions, supplemental information is shown on the COMAND display (e.g. playing time, track list and name of the performer).

Audio AUX
Additional audio sources, e.g. an MP3 player, can be integrated into the front entertainment system using the audio AUX function. An AUX jack is located in the glove compartment as a connection facility.
