The ETC control unit (N15/3) determines the instantaneous operating condition of the vehicle and controls all gearshift sequences taking into account the ease of shifting and the driving situation.

It receives input signals as operating data from the:
^ Starter lock-out contact (Y3/6s1)
^ Transmission oil temperature sensor (Y3/6b1)
^ RPM sensor 2 (Y3/6n2)
^ RPM sensor 3 (Y3/6n3)

In addition there is a connection to the following via the Controller Area Network bus Class C (engine compartment) (CAN-C):
^ Instrument cluster (A1)
^ DTR control unit (A89)
^ ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10)
^ Electronic selector lever module control unit (N15/5)
^ ESP control unit (N47-5)
^ EIS [EZS] control unit (N73)
^ Steering column module (N80)
^ Central gateway control unit (N93)

The ETC control unit (N15/3) controls the solenoid valves for modulating and shift pressure and for shifting gears. The pressure required is calculated from all input signals, adjusted to the torque to be transferred.
