AR32.25-P-1018TS Dismantle/Assemble Suspension Strut
- except CODE (489) AIRmatic (semi-active air suspension) [model 211]
- except CODE (487) Active Body Control (ABC) [model 230]

Remove

DANGER
- Remove Lethal injuries are possible if vehicle slips off of lifting platform
- Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
- Risk of injury from jamming or bruises when working on springs or spring bosses which are tensioned
- Use only approved tensioning devices, additionally shield off hazardous area if necessary.
- Inspect special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection).
- Wear protective gloves.

CAUTION:

1 Remove front or rear suspension strut (7)
- Remove front suspension strut
- Remove rear suspension strut

Disassemble/assemble
2 Clamp spring compressor (01) in vise and insert clamping plates (02a, 02b).
3 Install suspension strut (7) in spring compressor (01)

NOTE: Insert suspension strut (7) so that as many coils of the spring (4) as possible are tensioned.

4 Tension spring (4) until load is relieved from upper spring cup (5b)
5 Remove cap (5d).
6 Unscrew self-locking nut (5c) and remove shock absorber (2).

NOTE: Counterhold piston rod (2a) with socket wrench bit.

7 Remove bellows (6a) and stop damper (6b).
8 Remove lower spring cup (3e), rubber support (3d) and base washer (3c).
9 Release spring compressor (01) and remove spring (4) with upper spring cup (5b) and spring seat (5a)

Inspecting
10 Inspect shock absorber (2).
- Check shock absorber (2) for leaks. A thin film of oil on the shock absorber (2) is permissible. Replace shock absorber (2) if necessary.

11 Check bellows (6a), stop damper (6b), spring seat (5a), base washer (3c) and rubber support (3d) for wear.

NOTE: Replace cracked, oil fouled, and deformed components.

12 Assemble in reverse order

Install
13 Install front suspension strut (7).
14 Check headlamp adjustment and correct if necessary.
- After installation of new parts.
