Remove/Install Steering Wheel

1 Position steering wheel (32) horizontal (front wheels in straight-ahead position)
2 Disconnect ground cable of battery
3 Remove airbag unit on steering wheel
4 Unscrew countersunk bolt (32c), steadying steering wheel (32)
CAUTION: Installation: Install new countersunk bolt (32c).
5 Remove steering wheel (32), in the process guide the electrical lines from the airbag through the opening
CAUTION: Installation: Assign the recess clearances of the serrations (arrows) in the steering wheel (32) to the markings on the steering shaft
6 Check fanfare horns and airbag clock spring contact (A45) for damage
CAUTION: When the steering wheel (32) is detached the fanfare horns and airbag clock spring contact (A45) must not be twisted, otherwise it may be damaged.
- Visual inspection, if necessary replace fanfare horns and airbag clock spring contact (A45).
7 Install in the reverse order
8 Conduct a road test
- Tests during the road test:
- Flasher canceling:
- If the steering wheel (32) was offset by more than 1 tooth, satisfactory resetting of the turn signals is no longer guaranteed.
- Airbag indicator lamp:
- The SRS malfunction indicator lamp must not light up with full steering angle in both directions.
- Position of steering wheel (32):
- If the steering wheel (32) is crooked, adjust it by max. 1 tooth.
- If the difference is greater, Check and adjust toe on front axle.
