GF82.35-P-3002T Windshield Washer, Function

Component Identification:

Function requirements:
^ C. 15R On

General information
The windshield wash function consists of the following subfunctions:
^ Wash
^ Follow-up wiping
^ Clean headlamps
(with code (600) Headlamp cleaning system as of 1.06.04)

Washing function
The washing function is activated by pressing the combination switch in axial direction beyond the detent point. In the process, the windshield washer fluid pump and the wiper motor are actuate directly by the driver-side SAM control unit.
The "Washing" information is provided by the driver-side SAM control unit via the overhead control panel control unit to the rain/ light sensor in order to suppress the automatic wiper control.

If washing takes place whilst
^ when level 2 wiping is active, then wiping takes place at level 2
^ when level 1 or intermittent wiping is active, then wiping takes place at level 1
^ when the combination switch is in rest position, then wiping takes place at level 1.

Operating time limit:
The windshield washer fluid pump is actuated for as long as the combination switch is operated; however for a max. of 15 s. Pressing the combination switch again restarts the time period.

If the combination switch is requested for more than 15 s, a "stuck button" is detected and the actuation is canceled. Afterwiping takes place three times.

Afterwipe function
The number of after wipe cycles is dependent on the operation time of the combination switch. Afterwiping becomes active as soon as the combination switch is no longer activated.
If the windshield washer fluid pump is requested for an activation time of less than 1 second, a single after wipe takes place. If the initial activation time is greater than 1 second, a triple after wipe take place. If, within this after wipe period, wash is actuated again, then three afterwipes are always performed.

The wiping speed depends on the position of the combination switch. Speed reduction is suppressed during the wash and after wipe cycle. Speed increase is not suppressed during the wash and after wipe cycle.

Headlamp cleaning

Additional function requirements
^ Low beam switched on
^ 15 operations of the windshield washer system (time interval between individual operations t > 2.5 s) (up to 31.5.07) or 5 operations of windshield washer system (time interval between individual operations t > 2.5 (as of 1.6.07)

Headlamp cleaning function
Each windshield washer system request causes the internal counter in the driver SAM control unit to be incremented upwards by one until it reaches the corresponding value. The headlight cleaning system pump is then actuated and the counter reset to "zero".
The counter is also reset to "zero" at circuit 15 OFF or low beams OFF.

The driver SAM control unit switches circuit 30 through for an operating time of approx. 1 s to the HCS [SRA] pump. The resulting water pressure acts against the return springs in both telescopic nozzles. The telescopic nozzles are extended, and in doing so they open the flaps in the bumper and spray washer fluid onto the headlamp lenses. After the duty cycle has elapsed, the pressure in the washer fluid line drops again and the spring force acts on the nozzles moving them back into their starting position. The flaps in the bumper are closed by the spring action.

Pressing the HCS [SRA] switch again when a headlamp cleaning cycle is being performed has no effect.
A further headlamp cleaning cycle can only be initiated after the previous one has ended.
