GF54.65-P-2000SX Self-test, Function
- with CODE (220) Parktronic system (PTS)
- up to model year 08

Function requirements:
^ Circuit 15 ON

Function
The PTS control unit (N62) performs a self-test when the ignition is switched on (circuit 15 ON).
The following are checked:
^ PTS control unit
^ Rear PTS warning indicator (A44/3)
^ Front PTS ultrasonic sensor (B8/1, B8/2, B8/3, B8/4, B8/5 and B8/6)
^ Rear PTS ultrasonic sensor (B8/7, B8/8, B8/9 and B8/10)
^ all Parktronic system (PTS) electrical lines

Following the self-test all LEDs for the rear warning indicator are fully actuated for approx. 1 s.
If there are no malfunctions or faults, the two yellow horizontal "stand-by bars" of the warning indicator in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1) light up and both inner yellow LEDs in the rear warning indicator are at reduced brightness.
The background illumination of the warning indicator in the multifunction display is automatically adapted to match the ambient brightness.
The PTS control unit performs further self-tests at regular intervals. PTS distinguishes between a malfunction and a fault.

Malfunction
If a malfunction occurs during operation, this is indicated by the red segments or red LEDs of each affected warning indicator lighting up. A warning sound is not emitted.
A malfunction may be caused by a defect in one of the components of the PTS or by short-term interference from outside (e.g. from a pneumatic drill on a construction site, a steam jet cleaner or an induction loop at traffic signals).
PTS is immediately active again once the fault has been rectified.

Fault case 1
If a system error is occasioned by a component such as through a defective PTS ultrasonic sensor, a defective warning indicator or a defective PTS control unit, then the red segments or the red LEDs for each affected warning indicator are actuated.

In addition a warning chime is emitted for 2 seconds. Following a further 20 s the PTS shuts down and an error is written to the fault memory in the PTS control unit.

Fault case 2
If a fault is detected during a function test while driving, then the next time speed drops below 16 km/h the red segments or red LEDs of each affected warning indicator are actuated. In addition a warning chime is emitted for 2 seconds.
Following a further 20 s the PTS shuts down and an error is written to the fault memory in the PTS control unit.
