GF86.10-P-0001SXS Operation Of Fire Extinguisher System
- with CODE (Z07) Top protection
- up to model year 08

Component Identification:

Function
The fire extinguishing system is installed to extinguish fires below the vehicle and in the engine compartment.
The fire extinguishing system can be actuated manually or automatically.Extinguishing powder is used to fire fighting.

The nozzles on the fire extinguishing system are distributed on the vehicle floor and the engine compartment as follows:
^ 2 nozzles on rear floor panel
^ 3 nozzles on left passenger compartment floor armor plate
^ 3 nozzles on right passenger compartment floor armor plate
^ 2 nozzles in left and right front upper engine compartment
^ 2 nozzles in left and right front lower engine compartment

Function requirements
^ Circuit 15 On
^ Vehicle speed less than 20 km/h

Automatic actuation
The temperature sensors permanently determine the ambient temperature.Evaluation is accomplished by the fire extinguishing system control unit.
When the threshold value of approx. 140 °C is exceeded, the fire extinguishing system control unit starts the extinguishing procedure by igniting the squibs on both extinguishing agent reservoirs.

Manual activation
First press the activation button to activate the fire extinguishing system. The LED in the fire extinguishing system switch starts to flash for approx. 6 s and parallel to this, the warning buzzer sounds.During the time the fire extinguishing system can be triggered by actuating the fire extinguishing system switch for at least 1 s.
The activation button and the fire extinguishing system switch are directly read in by the fire extinguishing system control unit. The fire extinguishing system control unit starts the extinguishing procedure by igniting the squibs of both extinguishing agent reservoirs.

Automatic activation of recirculated air function
When the fire extinguishing system is activated, the recirculated air flap is set to the position "Recirculated air" and the ventilation fan is switched off momentarily to prevent smoke or extinguishing powder getting into the vehicle interior.
The request for this is transmitted by the fire extinguishing system control unit via the special vehicle multi-function control unit (MSS) to the AAC control unit.It actuates the actuator motor and the blower regulator via the LIN air conditioning. After closing the air recirculation flap, the blower stage previously adjusted is reactivated.
The recirculated air function can be terminated at any time by actuating the recirculated air button (N72/1s37) on the upper control panel control unit (N72/1).

Monitoring
The fire extinguishing system control unit monitors the temperature sensor for signal failure and plausibility.
The pressure in the fire extinguishing bottles is determined by the pressure monitoring switch. At a pressure of < 40 bar, the fire extinguishing system control unit outputs a warning message via the warning buzzer and the LED in the fire extinguishing system switch.

Self-test
When circuit 15 is switched on, the LED's in the fire extinguishing system switch and the activation button comes for approx. 10 s. Simultaneously the warning buzzer is actuated.
If a warning is still activated after expiration of this time, the fire extinguishing system control unit has recognized a fault and the fire extinguishing system is out of order.
