Component Identification:

Function requirements:
^ C. 15 ON

Function
By folding down the rear head restraints of the non-occupied rear seats, the driver is able to create unimpeded visibility through the rear window as needed.

The rear head restraints are folded down by:
^ actuating the head restraint folding button in the front central operating unit
^ actuating the left rear or right rear head restraint adjustment switch
^ engaging the reverse gear

Folding down via the head restraint folding button
When the head restraint folding button in the front central operating unit is pressed, the rear seats control unit receives the message for folding down the two outer rear head restraints via the interior CAN, as well as the rear SAM control unit to fold down the center head restraint.

The rear seats control unit actuates the left or right rear head restraint inclination adjustment motor, whereupon the corresponding head restraints are folded to the rear and down.

The rear SAM control unit forwards the message for folding down the center head restraint to the rear head restraints valve block and to the lumbar pump or the pneumatic pump. The center head restraint is unlocked pneumatically via the head restraint mechanism and folded to the rear and down via a lever linkage.

Folding down via the head restraint adjustment switch
The actuation of the head restraint adjustment switch is read in by the left rear door control unit or by the right rear door control unit via the rear door-LIN and forwarded to the rear seats control unit via the interior CAN.

The rear seats control unit then actuates the left or right rear head restraint inclination adjustment motor.

Folding down when engaging the reverse gear
The servo module for DIRECT SELECT forwards the "Reverse gear engaged" signal to the CDI control unit or the ME-SFI [ME] control unit via the drive train CAN.

The CDI control unit or the ME-SFI [ME] control unit forwards the signal to the central gateway control unit via the chassis CAN. The latter forwards the signal to the rear seats control unit and the rear SAM control unit via the interior CAN. The rear seats control unit actuates the left or right rear head restraint inclination adjustment motor. The rear SAM control unit forwards the message for folding down the center head restraint to the rear head restraints valve block and to the lumbar pump or the pneumatic pump. The center head restraint is unlocked pneumatically via the head restraint mechanism and folded down via a lever linkage.
