Short range sensors
Short range sensors cover a wide area in front of and behind the vehicle. They are particularly suitable therefore in Distronic Plus mode for low vehicle speed such as parking assist and for blind spot monitoring.

The short range sensors function according to the short pulse procedure and detect objects (e.g. vehicles) within a short range up to 30 m and within an angle up to 140°.
A precise angle can be determined within a detection zone of 80° while just the existence of objects can be detected at angles up to 140°.
Within their detection range of 0.2 m to 30 m, short range sensors have a resolution of 0.04 m.

Long range sensor
With its narrow divergence of 9° (sharp focussing), the long range sensor covers only a narrow zone in front of the vehicle, and is therefore used for detection at longer ranges.
Its detection range measures up to 150 m.

The long range sensor operates according to the pulse Doppler principle and is capable of measuring the distance and speed of individual objects (e.g. vehicles) independently of one another.
