The warning threshold for the remaining distance serves to determine the kilometer figure from which the vehicle user is informed with an appropriate warning at the earliest before reaching the point in time for the service calculated by Active Service System Plus (ASSYST PLUS). The warning threshold for the remaining distance is primarily decisive for the service warning if the remaining distance reaches the service warning threshold before the remaining time. The ASSYST PLUS warning threshold is stored in the central gateway control unit (N93) and can be parameterized using STAR DIAGNOSIS.
The following driving conditions are taken into account:
- Cold starts
- Engine speeds
- Short-distance trips
If the driving conditions are favorable, the driver can be provided with a quantity rebate, which extends the remaining distance and thus the service interval. Whether the vehicle is actually being driven or whether the engine is idling is also taken into consideration. In order to achieve this, ASSYST PLUS is continuously provided with data regarding the vehicle's current operating conditions. In the event of optimum evaluation, only 0.6 km are calculated for each kilometer covered.
In the event of unfavorable evaluation of the route (e.g. frequent short-distance runs, many cold starts), the remaining distance, and therefore the service interval, are less than in the event of favorable evaluation (assuming equal quality factors). Under most unfavorable conditions, up to 3 km are calculated for each kilometer covered.
Display of remaining distance
This is displayed in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1) corresponding to the setting in kilometers or miles:
- at the request of the driver.
- automatically, after reaching the warning threshold, after the circuit status "Circuit 15 ON" has been activated or the engine has been started on the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73). The service symbol and the display "Service X in XXXXX km" appear for t = 10 s.
- automatically, after reaching the remaining distance, after the circuit status "Circuit 15 ON" has been activated or the engine has been started on the EIS [EZS] control unit. The service symbol and the display "Perform Service X" appear for t = 10 s.
- Automatically, after exceeding the remaining distance by more than 100 km, after the circuit status "Circuit 15 ON" has been activated or the engine has been started on the EIS [EZS] control unit. The service symbol and the display "Service X exceeded by XXXXX km" appear for t = 10 s. In addition, a warning tone is sounded.
The remaining distance is displayed as standard. However, so that the attention of drivers of vehicles with low annual mileage is also drawn to a due service, the time information is also always processed in the background. The remaining distance is compared to the remaining time on a daily basis. Under certain preconditions the display changes over and the remaining time is displayed.
If ASSYST PLUS is missing measurement values, e.g. due to the failure of a sensor, substitute values stored in the control units are used. An appropriate entry is made in the fault memory of the central gateway control unit.
