Replacing or Programming the Trunk Control Module (HDS)
When replacing the "old" trunk control module (HDS) with the "new" control module or when programming the trunk control module to the current software release the following is to be observed:
Control Modules Software
"Old" control modules: A 221 870 72 85 and A "Old" software releases: 05/04 and 05/27 221 870 78 86
Control modules with software released 05/04 can only be updated to software release 05/27. Repinning must not be carried out in this case.
"New" control modules: A 221 870 61 85 or
current control module "New" software releases: 05/24 or current release
NOTE:
The repinning procedure should only be done in the case of complaint. If the trunk control is operative, the trunk control module must not be replaced.
Warning:
Do not disconnect the negative battery cable. Extensive reprogramming requirements are otherwise necessary. Wiring harnesses are therefore electrically active. Severe vehicle damage, personal injury, or death from electrical shock could result. Exercise extreme caution while executing these installation instructions. Keep the ignition and radio powered OFF through the final test.
New Pinning Procedure:
Repinning Procedure
1. Pull down rear center arm rest console.
2. Remove console's false bottom with plastic wedge or suitable tool to uncover the rear SAM control module. (See WIS-net document AR88.50-P-5300sx.)
3. Remove the electrical connector in slot 147 fuse (dark red) in the rear SAM control module.
4. Using special tool 220 589 0199 (handle) and 220 589 01 99 61 (bit), unpin the plug electrical contact from the dark red housing (A, Figure 1).
5. Repin the plug electrical contact into the pink housing (A 211 545 11 01) (B, Figure 1).
5. Mount the fuse into slot 151 (C, Figure 1).
6. Update the fuse assignment sheet by hand.
