Date: September 26, 2006
Order No.: P-B-82.85/529
Supersedes:
Group: 82

SUBJECT:
Model 221.171, as of Model Year 2007

COMAND Shuts Down Due to Under/Over-Voltage with Event Codes (D014 or D015)

Current and Stored, Only The Climate Control Is Available

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of the COMAND Head Unit shutting down during normal operation while the vehicle is running, turn the COMAND back ON and verify that the Climate Control status line is available and the user can control the functions of the HVAC system. If the HVAC is accessible, perform a short test on the COMAND and check for the following event codes:

D014: Supply Voltage is too high or too low, or
D015: MOST Network was shut down due insufficient battery voltage.

This condition may be caused by an insufficient voltage supply to the COMAND Head Unit. Should the above event codes exist, do not replace the COMAND; the shut down process is normal for the COMAND to protect itself. Perform battery diagnostics as necessary, refer to WIS document AR54.10-P-1129SX and charge if necessary, refer to WIS document AR54.10-P-1130SX.
