Trunk Lid Valet Lock Retrofit
A. PREPARING FOR THE INSTALLATION
1. Read these installation instructions in their entirety before proceeding.
2. Unpack and compare the installation parts against the Parts Information list in the parts section of this document.
3. Remove right side trunk panel and trunk front panel to access rear SAM and battery (refer to WIS: AR68.30-P-4600SX).
4. Remove paneling on trunk lid interior and remove right side trunk hinge cover (refer to WIS: AR88.50-P-5000SX).
5. Remove trunk lid lock cylinder panel:
^ Remove two (T20) torx screws from from underside of trunk lid lip (arrows, Figure 1).
^ Pry out cover using plastic wedge
Note:

^ Refer to Figure 2 for underside view of cover showing mounting holes (A, Figure 2) for torx screws and cover securing clips (Arrows, Figure 2).
6. Remove trunk lock cylinder housing:
^ Remove housing cover (Arrow, Figure 3).
^ Disconnect trunk release cable (A, Figure 3).
^ Loosen two (T30) torx screws (Arrows, Figure 4)
^ Rotate housing (A, Figure 4) slightly (counter clockwise) and push through trunk lid.
7. Remove lock cylinder from housing:
^ Insert key (A, Figure 5) then turn and press pin (Arrow, Figure 5) through release hole.
^ Pull tumbler out from front of lock cylinder housing.

B RETROFITTING VALET LOCK FOR TRUNK LID
1. Insert tumbler (Arrow, Figure 6) into new lock assembly (A, Figure 6) and turn until locked into place.
2. Install new trunk lock cylinder housing (A, Figure 7) into trunk lid, secure with torx screws (Arrows, Figure 7).
3. Connect trunk release cable (A, Figure 3) to housing.
4. Cut off a 3.7 m length of 20 gauge (e.g., brown/green) wire.
5. Strip off 1/4" insulation from both ends of brown/green wire.
6. Crimp one of the three included connector pins (A, Figure 8) onto one end of brown/green wire (B, Figure 8).
7. Repeat previous step for other end of brown/green wire
8. Cut off a 80 cm length of 20 gauge (e.g., brown) wire.
9. Strip off 1/4" insulation from both ends of brown wire.
10. Crimp the one remaining included connector pins (C, Figure 8) onto one end of brown wire (D, Figure 8).
11. Insert one of the brown/green wire connector pins (A, Figure 9) into pin position one (B, Figure 9) of included trunk lock microswitch connector (C, Figure 9).
12. Insert brown wire connector pin (D, Figure 9) into pin position two (E, Figure 9) of the included trunk lock microswitch connector (C, Figure 9).
13. Connect trunk lock microswitch connector (C, Figure 9) to new lock assembly microswitch connector (F, Figure 9).
14. Tape harness and route (Arrows, Figure 11) from trunk lid lock through trunk lid and secure with cable ties.
15. Attach other end of brown wire to ground connection Z6/92 (Arrow, Figure 10) with solder splice.
Note:
Refer also to A, Figure 11 for location of ground connection Z6/92.
16. Tape and route brown/green along existing harness (Arrows, Figure 11, 12, 13) and down to rear SAM.
17. Remove rear SAM (refer to WIS: AR54.21-P-1258SX)
Note:
Ensure vehicle data is extracted before removing rear SAM.
18. Insert brown/green wire connector pin into pin position 21 of connector K4 in the kit included rear SAM (Arrow, Figure 14).
19. Install new rear SAM (AR54.21-P-1258SX).
20. Perform initial programming and reinitialize using Star Diagnosis.
C FUNCTION TESTING AND FINAL ASSEMBLY
1. Verify proper trunk operation per the following checklist:
With trunk lid lock tumbler in the locked position (A, Figure 15), verify the trunk will not open when:
a. Actuating the switch on the driver's side door panel.
b. Pressing the trunk lid button on the license plate recess.
c. Pressing the trunk button on the Smart-Key
With the trunk lid lock tumbler in the neutral position (B, Figure 15), verify the trunk will open when:
a. Actuating the switch on the driver's side door panel.
b. Pressing the trunk lid button on the license plate recess.
c. Pressing the trunk button on the Smart-Key
With the trunk locked or unlocked, verify the trunk will open when pressing the trunk lid emergency release switch.
2. Reinstall components in reverse order.
3. Check the DTC memory of all installed components and components in the trunk. Identify and investigate any present DTCs. Correct the source of the DTCs.
Note:
Powering-up the newly installed system prior to version coding will set errors. Ignore these errors during the initial DTC check. If the DTCs return after clearing, a configuration error is present. Locate and correct the error.
4. Confirm no new DTCs are present in component in the trunk.
