COMAND(R)- Parking Assist Of Reversing Camera Inop After Update

COMAND: Parking assist function of reversing camera inoperative after update

Topic number LI82.85-P-042329

Version 1

Design group 82.85 Navigation and communication systems (CNS, ICS, COMAND, FleetBoard)

Date 10-26-2010

Validity Models 216, 221 up to model year 2007 (code 807) with reversing camera (code 218)

Reason for change Damage code changed / Supersedes DTB P-B-82.85/512h

Complaint
After updating the software of the COMAND controller unit (A40/3) to software version 07/09, the COMAND display may no longer display the guidelines for the parking assist.

The options for reverse/parallel parking are no longer available.

Cause
Due to changes in the reversing camera controller unit and the associated codings, it may be that the coding for the reversing camera is incorrectly set after the update.

Note:
As of model year 2008 (code 808) the parking assist function is present in the instrument cluster (with code 230) and not in the COMAND display as before.

Remedy
Check codings. The codings can be checked in DAS under the following menu item:

Control units -> Information and communication -> Audio, video, navigation and telematics -> COMAND -> Control unit adaptations -> Read coding and modify if necessary -> Display all COMAND codings

In vehicles up to model year 2007 (code 807) with reversing camera (code 218), the codings must be set as follows:

Rear View Camera installed: YES

Reversing camera: Camera with parking assist

If the codings are not set as specified, press F2 to return to the previous menu and select the item "Set vehicle and equipment dependent codings automatically". Run through the subsequent steps and check the codings afterwards.

If the codings are still incorrect and the complaint is not rectified, contact the Star Diagnosis Hotline in order to set the coding manually from development data.
