GF27.51-P-5106G Freewheel, Component Description

GF27.51-P-5106G Freewheel, component description
- TRANSMISSION 722.6
- up to model year 08

Component Identification:

Location
In the front planetary gear set the freewheel F1 is installed between the front sun gear and stator shaft and in the rear planetary gear set the freewheel F2 is installed between the rear sun gear and the intermediate shaft.

Task
The individual shifts are optimized with the aid of a freewheel. It supports individual elements of a planetary gear set against one another in a particular direction of rotation or against the transmission housing and thus facilitates torque transmission.

Design
The freewheels consist of an outer race, an inner race, several sprags and a sprag cage.

Component Identification:

Function
If the inner race of the freewheel is fixed and the outer race moves in direction of rotation "A", then the sprags assume an inclined position due to their special contour and make possible a freewheel function. The outer race slides with low friction over the sprags.

If the direction of the outer race changes in direction of rotation "B", the sprags move upright to connect the outer and inner race together in a locking function.
