GF82.35-P-3002SX Windshield Washer, Function

Component Identification:

Function requirements
^ C. 15R On
^ Wiper system (WSA[WS]) functioning

The general function sequence consists of several subfunctions.
These are:
^ Wash
^ Follow-up wiping
^ Clean headlamps
(with code (600) Headlamp cleaning system)

Washing function sequence
The washing function is activated by pressing the combination switch axially beyond the detent point.
In the process, the windshield washer fluid pump is actuated directly by the front SAM control unit, which receives the "wash" signal from the steering column module via the central gateway control unit.

At the same time, the "wash" information is also sent to the rain/ light sender (B38/2), as it is not permitted to trigger the rain sender mode during the wash cycle.
During the wash cycle, wiping takes place at the wiper speed set using the combination switch. When the combination switch is in the rest position, wiping takes place at stage 1.

Function interruption:
^ Circuit 50 On (engine start)

If "wash" is continuously requested for 15 s, a "stuck button" is detected and actuation is canceled. Afterwiping takes place three times.

Afterwiping function sequence
Afterwiping becomes active as soon as the combination switch is no longer activated. The number of after wipe cycles is dependent on the operation time of the combination switch.
If the windshield washer fluid pump is requested for an activation time of less than 1 second, a single after wipe takes place. If the initial activation time is greater than 1 second, a triple after wipe take place. If, within this after wipe period, wash is actuated again, then three afterwipes are always performed.

Afterwiping is carried out with the wiper speed set at the combination switch. When the combination switch is in the rest position, afterwiping takes place at stage 1.

An automatic speed reduction (not United States Of America) is suppressed for the wash and after wipe period

Clean headlamps

Additional function requirements
^ Low beam switched on
^ 15 actuations of the windshield washer system (time interval between individual actuations t > 2.5 s) (up to 31.5.07) or 5 actuations of the windshield washer system (time interval between individual actuations t > 2.5 (as of 1.6.07)

Function Clean headlamps
With each windshield washer system request, the internal counter in the driver SAM control unit is increased by one until it reaches the corresponding value. The HCS [SRA] pump is then actuated and the counter reset to "zero".
The counter is also reset to "zero" at circuit 15 OFF or low beams OFF.

The front SAM control unit switches circuit 30 through to the HCS [SRA] pump for an operating time of t = 1 s. The water pressure generated in the process then acts against the return springs in both telescopic nozzles. The telescopic nozzles are extended, and in doing so they open the flaps in the bumper and spray washer fluid onto the headlamp lenses. After the duty cycle has elapsed, the pressure in the washer fluid line drops again and the spring force acts on the nozzles moving them back into their starting position. The flaps in the bumper are closed by the spring action.

Pressing the HCS [SRA] switch again when a headlamp cleaning cycle is being performed has no effect.
A further headlamp cleaning cycle can only be activated after the previous one has ended.
