GF82.70-P-2014RI Short Message Service (SMS), Function

Function requirements
^ Status "Circuit 30 ON" or "Circuit 15R ON"
^ One mobile phone network is available in sufficient strength and quality
^ Mobile phone system operating error-free
^ Mobile phone and COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) switched on
^ Compatible mobile phone placed in UPCI [UHI] cell phone holder (A34/15), which is connected to the Bluetooth module (A34/7)
^ Correct Personal Identification Number (PIN) entered, if set on the mobile phone
^ Enabled Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) card inserted in mobile phone

In order to be able to operate a mobile phone in the vehicle that has Bluetooth capability and is authorized at the COMAND operating, display and controller unit, the mobile phone must support Hands Free Profile (HFP) 1.0 or 1.5. More information is available under:

General
The user has a facility for managing his SMS messages (e.g. reading or deleting) in the form of the Short Message Service (SMS) application. The received SMS messages that are already on the mobile phone and the new SMS messages are transmitted to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.
The following SMS functions are possible:
- Receiving SMS
- Read SMS via the display of the mobile phone and the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit, with code (386) Mobile phone
- Reading SMS via the mobile phone's screen, with code (389) Mobile phone preinstallation with universal interface, USA/Canada
- Deleting SMS
- Read out SMS (Text to Speech (TTS), German or English), with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer
- Mail inbox list of the 30 most recent SMS messages, sorted by date (choice of displaying either the sender or the start of the text for each SMS)

The "Short Message Service (SMS)" function consists of the following subfunctions:

Function sequence, transfer existing SMS to COMAND operating, display and controller unit
The SMS messages that are already stored in the mobile phone are transmitted to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit by the mobile phone using the following route:
- Cradle
- Bluetooth module
- Bluetooth antenna (A2/91)
- Direct line

Function sequence for receiving SMS
Incoming SMS are received by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following route:
- Telephone antenna (A2/22)
- Direct line
- Frequency switchover control unit (N96), with code (389) Mobile phone preinstallation with universal interface, USA/ Canada and with code (359) TELE AID emergency call system, and direct line
- Cradle
- Bluetooth module
- Bluetooth antenna
- Direct line

Function sequence for calling up SMS application
The SMS application for managing (e.g. reading or deleting) the SMS is selected via the "ComTEL/Telephone" menu item, which is done using the "TEL" telephone button on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit, and then appears on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The control signals from the telephone buttons and the keypad on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit are processed internally.

In vehicles with code (386) Mobile phone, the SMS are shown on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. Then the SMS entry in the function bar of the display on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit is called up using the keypad of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. In vehicles with code (386) Mobile phone or with code (389) Mobile phone preinstallation with universal interface, USA/Canada, the SMS are shown on the mobile phone's screen by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following route:
- Direct line
- Bluetooth antenna
- Bluetooth module
- Cradle

Function sequence for composing and transmitting SMS
It is only possible to read and transmit SMS messages via the buttons on the mobile phone.

The control signals from the buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally. The SMS is then sent to the recipient in the following way:
- Cradle
- Direct line
- Frequency switchover control unit, with code (389) Mobile phone preinstallation with universal interface, USA/Canada and with code (359) TELE AID emergency call system, and direct line
- Telephone antenna

In vehicles with code (810) Sound System, the SMS voice output is transmitted by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier (N40/3). From there, the voice output of the SMS takes place via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left door speaker group (H4/1)
- Right door speaker group (H4/2)
- Left rear speaker (H4/7)
- Right rear speaker (H4/8)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
- Subwoofer speaker (H4/29)

The audio signal for the subwoofer speaker is routed by the sound system amplifier via discrete lines to the subwoofer amplifier (N40/9) and from there, via discrete lines to the subwoofer speaker.

On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the voice output is transmitted from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit, via direct lines, to the following speakers:
- Left door speaker group
- Right door speaker group
- Left rear speaker
- Right rear speaker
