Side-impact
In the event of a side collision, the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) evaluates the data of the following components:
^ Rollover sensor (integrated in restraint systems control unit)
^ Left sidebag sensor (A53)
^ Right sidebag sensor (A54)
The following information is also evaluated for recording the situation in the vehicle interior:
Front passenger seat occupation status
The restraint systems control unit decides on the basis of the current assignment about actuation of the front passenger sidebag unit.
The following squibs of the corresponding restraint devices can be actuated in the event of a side impact:
^ Front left sidebag squib (R12/20)
^ Front right side air bag squib (R12/21)
The sidebag units are equipped with head-thorax bags (combination of window and sidebag) and have a volume that is greater by up to 10 l and a 10 % larger expansion surface than the conventional sidebag units that are used.
Automatic emergency call (for code (494) USA version)
Following deployment of an airbag, an automatic emergency call is transmitted. The emergency call is sent by the following control unit:
^ up to 30.6.04: E-call control unit (A35/8) (for code (349) E Call emergency call system)
^ from 1.7.04: Emergency call system control unit (N123/4) (for code (359) TELE AID emergency call system)
