GF54.30-P-0002R Instrument Cluster (IC), Function

Component Identification:

General information
The instrument cluster (A1) discharges the following functions:
^ Provide information about important vehicle operating conditions (e.g. speed, fuel supply)
^ To warn the driver about critical operating conditions
^ Function as a display for various systems (e.g. audio, trip computer)
^ Function as a computer and display for the "Active Service System" (ASSYST)
^ Function as a trip computer

To support these functionalities the instrument cluster (A1) incorporates a left multifunction display (A1p13), a right multifunction display (A1p15), various display instruments, warning and indicator lamps, and an acoustic signaling device.

In addition, various signals are produced in the instrument cluster (A1) (e.g. "speed", "terminal 58d"...) and passed via the engine compartment CAN and/or interior CAN.

Virtually all of the required information, with the exception of the signal for the airbag indicator and warning lamp (A1e15), is relayed from various control units to the instrument cluster (A1) via the engine compartment CAN or the interior CAN.
For this reason, only a few lines are required to connect it with the rest of the vehicle. The instrument cluster (A1) therefore only has one connector.
The instrument cluster (A1) includes a microprocessor for processing the incoming data. The program and necessary data are stored in an electronic memory chip.

Operation takes place via the system selection button (S110s3), the scroll forward and back button (S110s1) of the multifunction steering wheel and via the brightness control of the instrument illumination and reset button (A1r1) on the instrument cluster (A1).

Diagnosis takes place using STAR DIAGNOSIS.
