GF07.61-P-0001V Motor Electronics (ME-SFI) Fuel Injection And Ignition System, Function

The ME 9.7 fuel injection and ignition system is an advance development of the ME 2.8. The abbreviated designation ME-SFI 9.7 means:
M = Motronic (motor electronics)
E = Electronic accelerator pedal
9.7 = Version 9.7

In engine control unit, the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10), the following function are consolidated:
- Ignition system
- Injection system
- Electronic accelerator
- Idle speed control
- Torque interface
- Diagnosis and fault storage
- Gateway between the drive CAN and the chassis CAN
- Immobilizer and drive authorization
- Evaporative emission control system (for (USA) with leak test)
- Fuel supply
- Starter control
- Fan control
- Secondary air injection
- Emission control

The ME-SFI [ME] control unit is flashable. The software required to program the control units is provided on the DAS Update DVD.

The ME-SFI [ME] control unit evaluates the following basic information:
- Air mass
- Coolant temperature
- Engine speed/crankshaft position
- Smooth operation of the engine (misfire detection)
- Throttle valve position
- Accelerator pedal position
- O2 sensor signals
- Intake manifold pressure
- Intake air temperature
- Outside air temperature
- Air pressure (altitude)
- Inlet and exhaust camshaft position
- Vehicle speed (via CAN)
- Steering angle (via CAN)
- Alternator interface
- Knocking of engine
- Brake recognition (via CAN)
- Oil level
- Position of the clutch pedal (for manual transmission 716.6)
