General
The radio with auto pilot system (A2/56) is the central operating unit for the entertainment and communications systems integrated in the vehicle. The radio with auto pilot system comprises the following subfunctions:
^ Audio functions
^ Voice control function (with voice control system (VCS [SBS])), only in combination with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer
^ Telephone mode, functions
^ Navigation mode, function

The displays and menu depictions for the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) are generated in the radio with auto pilot system. The following applications are also displayed in the instrument cluster (A1) at the same time as being displayed in the Audio/COMAND display:
^ Audio
^ Telephone
^ Navigation

The radio with auto pilot system supports the following control units, which are available as special equipment:
^ Sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3), with code (810)
^ Sound system Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit (N87/3), with code (537) Digital radio

The radio with auto pilot system functions as a gateway. It routes the signals from the interior CAN to the components of the telematics CAN and the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) and thereby forms the communications interface ("master control unit").

Diagnosis
The radio with auto pilot system is the diagnosis gateway ("master control unit") for all MOST subscribers. Diagnosis takes place over the diagnostic CAN and over the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) as well as over the interior CAN right up to the radio with auto pilot system by means of the Keyword 2000 protocol.
