GF82.10-P-2119CW Xenon Light Control Unit, Component Description
- with CODE (614) Bi-xenon headlamp unit
- with CODE (622) Intelligent Light System (right-hand traffic)

Illustrated on model 204.0

Component Identification:

Location
The left xenon light control unit is installed on the underside of the left front lamp unit and the right xenon light control unit on the underside of the right front lamp unit.

Tasks
^ Power control of left xenon bulb with integrated ignition module (E1e10) and right xenon bulb with integrated ignition module (E2e10)
^ Switchover from low beam to high beam
^ Actuation of automatic headlamp range adjustment (HRA [LWR])
^ Actuation of active curve illumination
(with code (622) Intelligent Light System (right-hand traffic))
^ Actuation of motorway lights
(for code (622) Intelligent Light System (right-hand traffic))
^ Control of extended fog lights function
(for code (622) Intelligent Light System (right-hand traffic))

Function
The xenon light control units operate in a master-slave combination and communicate with each other over the front end CAN.

The xenon light control unit at the left front lamp unit is the master control unit.
It processes and evaluates incoming information and forwards it correspondingly to the xenon light control unit on the right front lamp unit.

Power control of the xenon bulb
When switching on the low beam function, the particular xenon bulb is activated by the corresponding xenon light control unit. The xenon bulb is ignited by means of a high-voltage surge. If an electric arc of sufficient stability is detected, the xenon light control units switch over to the output-limiting operation.
When the motorway lights function is active, the light output is increased via the xenon light control units.

Switching between low beam/high beam
When the low-beam function is active, the lower half of the light beam is covered by a shield. When the high-beam function is requested, the respective shield is folded downwards. The shields are actuated electromechanically by the xenon light control units via the left high beam solenoid (E1l1) in the left front lamp unit and via the right high beam solenoid (E2l1) in the right front lamp unit. The roadway is now illuminated with the entire light beam.

Actuation of the automatic headlamp range adjustment
To correct the headlamp range of the vehicle's headlamps, the left xenon light control unit on vehicles (without code (483) ADVANCED AGILITY package) evaluates the data of the left rear level sensor (B22/7) and the left front level sensor (B22/8).

On vehicles with code (483) ADVANCED AGILITY package, the level data is sent to the chassis CAN by the adaptive damping system control unit (N51/5), received by the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1), and transmitted to the left xenon light control unit via the front end CAN.

The left xenon light control unit transmits them to the right xenon light control unit.
The left xenon light control unit actuates the left headlamp range adjustment actuator motor (E1m1) accordingly and the right xenon light control unit actuates the right headlamp range adjustment actuator motor (E2m1).

Actuation of the active curve illumination
The left xenon light control unit actuates the left active curve illumination actuator motor (E1m2) and the right xenon light control unit actuates the right active curve illumination actuator motor (E2m2).
The extent to which the headlamp units are swiveled in the process depends on various vehicle dynamics parameters.

Control of motorway lights
The function of the motorway lights is achieved by increasing the light output of the xenon bulb and by raising the left headlamp unit.

Control of extended fog light function
To realize the extended fog light function, the headlamp unit of the left front lamp unit is swiveled outwards by 8° and lowered. For this purpose, the left xenon light control unit actuates the left active curve illumination actuator motor and the left headlamp range adjustment actuator motor accordingly.

Signal inputs and outputs

Discrete inputs
^ Circuit 15
^ Circuit 56a
^ Circuit 56b
^ Circuit 31
^ Level sensor (only on left xenon light control unit, without code (483) ADVANCED AGILITY package)

Discrete outputs
^ Xenon bulb power supply
^ Headlamp range adjustment motor
^ Dynamic curve illumination motor
^ Power supply of the level sensors (only on left xenon light control unit) (without code (483) ADVANCED AGILITY package)

CAN signals
The xenon headlamp control units are participants of the front end CAN.

After replacement, the xenon light control units must be coded to match the vehicle model and national version.
