Function sequence, call signal
The mobile phone receives a call signal over the discrete line and the connector from the multifunction antenna (A28/11). The caller is shown on the display of the mobile phone and the information is forwarded simultaneously in the following way to the COMAND controller unit:
^ Plug connection
^ Discrete line
^ Communication control unit
^ Discrete line
The COMAND controller unit sends the call tone for vehicles with code (810) Sound system over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3).
From there, the call tone is transmitted via discrete lines to the following speakers:
^ Left front door speaker (H4/1)
^ Right front door speaker (H4/2)
^ Left rear door speaker (H4/3)
^ Right rear door speaker (H4/4)
^ Center dashboard speaker (H4/27)
For vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the call tone is sent directly from the COMAND controller unit over discrete lines to the following speakers:
^ Left front door speaker
^ Right front door speaker
^ Left rear door speaker
^ Right rear door speaker
^ Center dashboard speaker
At the same time the COMAND controller unit reduces the volume of the currently active audio source (e.g. the radio) by 15 dB. The currently active audio source is not muted until the caller accepts the call (MUTE). The call identification display is generated by the COMAND controller unit over a low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) line on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8). The call identification is also shown over the interior CAN on the multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1).
A mobile phone not connected to the connector and operated over Bluetooth receives the call signal over the mobile phone's antenna. The call signal is then forwarded to the COMAND controller unit in the following way:
^ Mobile phone antenna
^ Bluetooth antenna (A2/91)
^ Discrete line
Function sequence, accept call over mobile phone buttons
Pressing the "Accept call" button on the mobile phone serves to accept the call in handsfree mode. The control signals of the mobile phone buttons are internally processed and forwarded in the following way to the COMAND controller unit:
^ Plug connection
^ Discrete line
^ Communication control unit
^ Discrete line
On a mobile phone not connected to the connector and operated over Bluetooth, the control signals are internally processed by the mobile phone buttons and forwarded to the COMAND controller unit in the following way.
^ Mobile phone antenna
^ Bluetooth antenna
^ Discrete line
Accept call function sequence over phone buttons on the COMAND controller unit
Pressing the "Accept call" button on the COMAND controller unit serves to accept the call in handsfree mode. The control signals from the COMAND controller unit telephone buttons are processed internally.
Accept call function sequence over Audio/COMAND control panel
Through the call signal, the call identification is sent by the COMAND controller unit over a low voltage differential signal line to the Audio/COMAND display.
Selecting the "Accept call" function using the Audio/COMAND control panel serves to accept the call in handsfree mode. The control signals from the Audio/COMAND control panel are forwarded over the telematics CAN to the COMAND controller unit.
Accept call function sequence over multifunction steering wheel button groups
The call is accepted in handsfree mode by pressing the accept/ terminate phone call button (S111s3) in the corresponding panel. The control signal of the accept/terminate phone call button are forwarded over the following components to the COMAND controller unit:
^ Steering LIN
^ Steering column module control unit (N80)
^ Chassis CAN
^ Instrument cluster
^ Interior CAN
Function sequence, telephone call in hands-free mode
After the telephone call has been accepted, the COMAND controller unit receives or transmits the mobile phone signals or data in the following way:
^ Multifunction antenna
^ Discrete line
^ Plug connection
^ Discrete line
^ Communication control unit
^ Discrete line
The voice commands in handsfree mode are recorded by the voice control system microphone (B25/7) and forwarded over a discrete line straight to the COMAND controller unit.
The voice signals are forwarded by the COMAND controller unit for vehicles with code (810) Sound system via the MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit. From there, the voice signals are transmitted via discrete lines to the following speakers:
^ Left front door speaker
^ Right front door speaker
^ Left rear door speaker
^ Right rear door speaker
^ Center instrument panel speaker
For vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the voice signals are sent directly from the COMAND controller unit over discrete lines to the following speakers:
^ Left front door speaker
^ Right front door speaker
^ Left rear door speaker
^ Right rear door speaker
^ Center dashboard speaker
On a mobile phone not connected to the connector and operated over Bluetooth, the COMAND controller unit receives or transmits the mobile phone signals or data in the following way:
^ Mobile phone antenna
^ Bluetooth antenna
^ Discrete line
Generally, after accepting the call the telephone connection is established in handsfree mode, irrespective of whether the mobile phone is connected to the connector or operated over Bluetooth.
If, after the telephone connection has been established in handsfree mode, a mobile phone attached to the connector is disconnected and thus detached from the COMAND controller unit, the telephone call is then conducted in "private mode". If the mobile phone is reattached to the connector during a telephone call, the telephone call is then conducted in the handsfree mode again.
On a mobile phone not connected to the connector and operated over Bluetooth, a change can then be made to "private mode" following acceptance of the telephone call in handsfree mode by activating the "private mode" menu item via the Audio/COMAND control panel and the Audio/ COMAND display.
When in "private mode" the user can make a telephone call without other vehicle occupants being able to hear the conversation.
