The mobile phone enables the user to access the Internet. To be able to use the Internet Mode (i-mode (TM)) function which is widespread in Japan, the mobile phone also has to support the i-mode (TM) data exchange event log (DoCoMo i-Navi Link mobile phone). The Internet application enables the user to access the Internet. The Internet Mode (i-mode (TM)) function contains the "Run Internet application and establish Internet connection" subfunction.

Operating instructions
Using the Internet is only possible via the Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9) and the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8).

Run Internet application and establish Internet connection function sequence
The Internet application in the "ComTEL/telephone" menu item is selected using the "TEL" phone button on the COMAND controller unit and the Audio/COMAND control panel on the Audio/COMAND display.
The control signals from the COMAND controller unit telephone buttons are processed internally. The control signals from the Audio/COMAND control panel are forwarded over the telematics CAN to the COMAND controller unit. The menu item is shown on the Audio/COMAND display by the COMAND controller unit over a low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) line.

The connection to the Internet is set up by the COMAND controller unit in the following way:
^ Discrete line
^ Communication control unit
^ Discrete line
^ Plug connection
^ Discrete line
^ Multifunction antenna (A28/11)

A browser is integrated into the COMAND controller unit for showing the websites on the Audio/COMAND display. The data for showing websites is sent by the COMAND controller unit via a LVDS line to the Audio/COMAND display.

On a mobile phone not connected to the connector and operated via Bluetooth, the connection to the Internet is set up by the COMAND controller unit in the following way:
^ Discrete line
^ Bluetooth antenna (A2/91)
^ Mobile phone antenna
