Component Identification:

Location
The TV tuner control unit on model 204.0 is located on a bracket in the trunk on the right side wall behind the panel. On model 204.2, the TV tuner control unit is located on the right sidewall at the front of the trunk.

Task
The TV tuner control unit receives analog near-earth Japanese television channels.

Design
The TV tuner control unit consists of the following components:
^ 4-fold antenna diversity
^ 3 reception modules for video/sound signals
^ Multinorm receiver

Function
The TV tuner control unit is controlled using the COMAND controller unit (A40/3). The TV tuner control unit receives the necessary signals over the following amplifiers:
^ TV 1 antenna amplifier and DAB Band III (A94/1)
^ TV 2 antenna amplifier and KEYLESS GO (A94/2)
^ TV 3 antenna amplifier (A94/3)

When a television channel is received, the TV tuner control unit generates video signals which are sent over a discrete line to the COMAND controller unit and from there they are forwarded over a low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) line to the Audio/ COMAND display (A40/8). The audio signals are sent to the COMAND controller unit and then output directly over the vehicle speakers.

The TV picture is available at speeds ≤ 5 km/h. Only acoustic playback remains active while driving. For safety reasons a warning is shown on the Audio/COMAND display.
