COMAND Display Dark While Audio Continues to Play

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of the COMAND head unit display (A40/8) being dark or very dim while the audio continues to play, this may be caused by a malfunctioning transformer inside the display. Prior to replacement, perform the following steps:

1) Test the display's background illumination using DAS and "actuation of background illumination" step found under Telematics.. ZAN --> actuations.

2) Remove the central display, refer to WIS document AR82.60-P-7722W. Inspect the video cable connecting the COMAND head unit to the display for loss of proper contact, broken connector or over-bent/cut cable. If necessary replace the central display only.
