A40/9 Audio/COMAND control panel

Location
The Audio/COMAND control panel is located on the center console between the front seats.

The term "master control unit" is used below for whichever of the following "master control units" is fitted:
- COMAND controller unit, (A40/3), with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)
- COMAND controller unit, with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer
- Radio with auto pilot system (A2/56), with code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio
- Radio with auto pilot system, with code (511) AUDIO 55 APS radio
- Radio (A2), with code (523) MB Audio 20 radio, with code (494a) USA version
- Radio, with code (510) AUDIO 25 radio

Task
The Audio/COMAND control panel takes over the task of a mechanical electronic interface between the user and the "master control unit".
As a result commands are entered in the "master control unit" and information called up from it. The user's button commands are recorded by the Audio/COMAND control panel and passed on to the "Master control unit" via the telematics CAN.

Body
The buttons are designed as push/push buttons.

Function
The following functions are contained individually in the Audio/ COMAND control panel:
- Press: probing vertically downwards
- Turn: left or right
- Tilt: probing, 8 quadrants (Y-direction and X-direction)
