Keyless Entry Transmitter: Description and Operation

Component Identification:






Design
An "electronic key" is integrated in the transmitter key. This key includes an FM radio transmitter, an infrared transmitter/receiver unit, a computer chip as well as 2 batteries (button cells). Moreover, the following controls and control indicators are integrated:
^ Lock transmit button (1)
^ Unlock transmit button (2)
^ Trunk lid/tailgate remote door unlocking transmit button (3) (model 204.0, model 204.2 with code (890) EASY-PACK tailgate)
^ Battery indicator lamp (4)
^ Panic alarm (6) transmitter button (with code (763) Radio remote control with panic switch)

The mechanical emergency key (7) can be unlocked and removed with the unlocking slider (5).

Task
The transmitter key transmits radio and infrared signals for realizing the following system functions:
- Central locking (CL [ZV])
- Convenience feature (CF)
- Drive authorization stage 3 (DAS 3)
- Keyless Go (KG) (with code ( 889) Keyless Go)
- Panic alarm (with code (763) Radio remote control with panic switch)
- Rear-end door remote control (model 204.2 With code (890) Automatic rear-end door)

Switching over CL unlocking function from "Selective" to "Global" or vice versa:
^ Press and hold "Lock" transmit button and "Unlock" transmit button simultaneously for approx. 5 seconds until the battery indicator lamp flashes twice.

With "selective" unlocking, the driver door and the fuel filler flap are unlocked by pressing once.
With "global" unlocking, the vehicle is unlocked completely by pressing once.

Battery check:
When the lock transmit button, the unlock transmit button or the remote door unlock transmit button are actuated, the battery indicator lamp comes on momentarily indicating the proper state of the batteries in the transmitter key.
