Component Identification:

Networking and information flow of the multifunction steering wheel (MFL)
The following components of the MFL relevant for the COMAND system are read in by the steering column module via the steering LIN:
^ Scroll forward/back button (S110s1)
^ System select button (S110s3)
^ "Back" and VCS [SBS] off button (S110s4)
^ OK button (S110s6)
^ Buttons + and - for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1)
^ Accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3)
^ VCS on button (S111s4)
^ Mute button (S111s6)

The subsequent information flow of the MFL is as follows:
^ The steering column module places the signals from the MFL on the chassis CAN.
^ The central gateway control unit reads in the signals and places them on the central CAN.
^ The instrument cluster reads in the signals from the central CAN, links them with the particular system shown in the multifunction display (A1p13), and places the corresponding signals (control commands for the COMAND system) on the central CAN.
^ The COMAND controller unit reads in the signals from the central CAN and processes them.

Networking and information flow of the front central operating unit
The following components relevant for the COMAND system are read discretely in by the front central operating unit:
^ Volume control (A40/9r1)
^ Disc/radio quick select button (A40/9s1)
^ "Back" button (A40/9s2)
^ Telephone/navigation quick select button (A40/9s5)
^ Button "ON" (A40/9s6)
^ Mute button (A40/9s7)
^ Freely programmable button (A40/9s10)
^ Turn/push control (A40/9s11)

The subsequent information flow of the front central operating unit is as follows:
^ The front central operating unit places the signals on the telematics CAN.
^ The COMAND controller unit reads in the signals from the telematics CAN and processes them.

Networking of speaker system on model 221 with code (810) Sound system
The audio tuner control unit receives all audio and voice data that are to be output over the speaker system, via the MOST. The audio tuner control unit actuates the following components relevant for the COMAND system:
^ Left rear door speaker group (H4/3)
^ Right rear door speaker group (H4/4)
^ Bass module speaker (H4/17)
^ Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
^ Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
^ Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)
^ Left front door Sound tweeter (H4/68)
^ Right front door Sound tweeter (H4/69)
^ Left front door Sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/72)
^ Right front door Sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/73)
^ Microphone Sound amplifier (B25/6)
^ Rear window antenna amplifier module (A2/12)

Networking of speaker system on model 221 except code (810) Sound system
The audio tuner control unit receives all audio and voice data that are to be output over the speaker system, via the MOST. The audio tuner control unit actuates the following components relevant for the COMAND system:
^ Left front door speaker group (H4/1)
^ Right front door speaker group (H4/2)
^ Left rear door speaker group
^ Right rear door speaker group
^ Bass module speaker
^ Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
^ Antenna booster module

Networking of speaker system on model 216 with code (810) Sound system
The audio tuner control unit receives all audio and voice data that are to be output over the speaker system, via the MOST. The audio tuner control unit controls the following components relevant for the COMAND system:
^ Left door rear speaker (H4/3)
^ Right door rear speaker (H4/4)
^ Bass module speaker
^ Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
^ Left rear surround speaker
^ Right rear surround speaker

Networking of speaker system on model 216 except code (810) Sound system
