As of 1.9.06, the location and number of microphones in the hands-free system microphone group will change as follows:
^ The number of microphones will be reduced from 4 to 2.
^ The installation location of the microphones will change from underneath to above the inside rearview mirror unit (A67).

Making a phone call with the portable CTEL (A34/6)
The system enables portable CTELs for the network types Personal Digital Cellular (PDC), code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and Freedom Of Mobile Multimedia Access (FOMA (via Bluetooth)) to be operated in the vehicle.

To this end, the user must connect a portable CTEL compatible with the Japanese cellular phone network to the preinstalled standard connector for the respective network type. A connector for PDC telephones (the portable CTEL separation point) is installed ex works. The standard connector is preinstalled in the portable CTEL compartment of the center console under the armrest and serves to connect the portable CTEL directly to the COMAND controller unit via an interface.
The COMAND controller unit stores and administers the telephone book and the e-mail data.

Telephone functions are:
^ Keypad blocking, input over telephone keypad or portable CTEL keys
^ Placing telephone calls in hands-free mode
^ Display call numbers and caller IDs
^ Show the reception status and the duration of the phone call on the COMAND display
^ Display stored telephone numbers from the portable CTEL (up to 1000 entries) in the multifunction display (A1p13) and select using left multifunction steering wheel button group and right multifunction steering wheel button group (telephone book function)

The entries in the telephone book of the portable CTEL must have been previously loaded into the COMAND controller unit. The portable CTEL telephone numbers are displayed in the address book.

Address book
The address book enables all address-relevant applications (telephone, navigation, messaging, Internet) to be started. Entries may contain:
^ Name
^ Postal addresses
^ Phone numbers.
^ E-mail address
^ Geographic coordinates (home or office)
^ Company name
^ URL addresses

Internet (with CDMA and Bluetooth capable portable CTELs only)
The modem functionality integrated into the COMAND controller unit provides the user with Internet access. A browser is integrated to enable web sites to be viewed.

Internet functions are:
^ Next/Prev. Page, STOP, Reload (UPDATE), change to home page
^ Add Web address to Favorites list (bookmark)
^ Zoom
^ Terminate connection
^ Data encryption

E-mail (with CDMA and Bluetooth capable portable CTELs only)
E-mails and the data configured in the network provider setup can be sent and received over the inserted or Bluetooth-coupled portable CTEL.
Operation takes place via the Man-Machine-Interface (MMI) on the front central operating unit.
E-mail functions:
^ Receive e-mails
^ Save, forward or reply to received e-mails
^ Write new e-mails, send them or save them as a draft
^ E-mails received can be deleted automatically and manually; secured e-mails can only be deleted manually
^ List of all e-mails received sorted according to date received (different appearance on display for "read", "unread" and "protected" e-mails)
^ 20 predefined sentences
^ An e-mail can be sent directly ("TO") and as a copy ("CC")
^ E-mail addresses can be entered manually using the predictive text input (speller) or automatically from the address book
^ Manual e-mail check on server and Auto Mail Check are possible
^ Notification if new e-mails have been received on server
^ Logs (TCP/IP, SMTP, POP3)

It is not possible to attach files to an e-mail. It is possible to read and apply an URL address contained in an e-mail.
