Component Identification:






Location
The upper control panel control unit is located in the center console.

Design
The upper control panel control unit contains the following operating and display components:
^ STH/HB [ZUH]/residual heat button (N72/1s30) (with model 221.0/1)
STH/residual heat button (N72/1s30) (with model 216.3)
^ Left automatic air conditioning button (N72/1s33)
^ Left temperature selection button (N72/1s34)
^ Left blower button (N72/1s35)
^ Defrost/heated windshield button (N72/1s36)
^ Air recirculation button (N72/1s37)
^ OFF/residual heat button (N72/1s38)
^ Heated rear window button (N72/1s39)
^ Right blower button (N72/1s40)
^ Right temperature selection button (N72/1s41)
^ Right automatic air conditioning button (N72/1s42)
^ ATA [EDW] function indicator (N72/1e2) (only with code (551) Anti-theft alarm system (ATA [EDW]))

Task
To read in the following components via the upper control panel local LIN [local interconnect network]:
^ Analog clock (A70/1)
^ Cockpit switch group (S6/2)
^ Exterior lamp switch (S1)

Actuate following components over UPC LIN:
^ Automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp (S6/2e1) in the cockpit switch group

The following components are read in directly:
^ Hazard warning system button (A40/9s3)
^ Freely programmable button (A40/9s10)

Voltage supply of:
^ Cockpit switch group
^ Rotary light switch
^ Analog clock
^ Glove compartment lamp (E13/1)
^ right front footwell lamp (E17/15)
^ left front footwell lamp (E17/16)

Display of the individual operating options of the automatic air conditioning (AAC [KLA])
All the switch operations for the air conditioning functions are transmitted from the upper control panel control unit to the AAC [KLA] control unit (N22/1) via the interior CAN

Temperature selection button
The desired specified temperature for the left or right can be adjusted by pressing the respective temperature selection button. The temperature is shown in the COMAND display (A40/8).

Defrost/heated windshield button
The defrost function is activated by pressing the defrost/heated windshield button. The temperature is set to "maximum" in the process and the total air flow supplied to the defroster outlets. The blower output is regulated as a function of coolant temperature.

OFF/residual heat button
The automatic air conditioning is switched off by pressing the OFF/ residual heat button, this is displayed by an illuminating LED. The residual engine heat utilization system is activated when the ignition is off.

Automatic air conditioning button
Once the automatic air conditioning button is pressed the air is distributed for the respective side automatically.
The automatic function is deactivated by pressing the blower button.

Blower button
The blower specified values can be adjusted separately for the driver and front passenger side via the blower button. Manual control is only possible in fixed defined stages. Automatic operation of the automatic air conditioning is terminated when blower button for the respective side is pressed.

Air recirculation button
A brief press of the recirculated air button closes the main air flap to prevent air entering from outside. As a result the air only circulates in the interior and unpleasant odors and harmful gases are kept out. The function LED lights up during air recirculation mode.
Pressing for longer than 1.5 s activates the comfort opening or comfort closing of the side windows and the tilting/sliding roof (for model 216.3 series, for model 221.0/1 with code (413) Panoramic glass roof with top sliding roof or with code (414) Power glass tilting/sliding roof).

Operation of stationary heater (STH) (with code (228) Stationary heater)

STH/residual heat button
Pressing the STH/residual heat button switches the stationary heater on or off. The preselection time menu can also be called up in the instrument cluster (A1).

Operation of heated rear window

Heated rear window button
The rear window can be heated by pressing the heated rear window button. The function ends automatically following expiry the time stored in the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) or if the button is pressed again.

Function indicator

ATA [EDW] function indicator (with code (551) Anti-theft alarm system (ATA [EDW]))
The status of the anti-theft alarm system (ATA [EDW]) is displayed via the LED.
