GF30.30-P-0004SX Distronic Plus Including BAS Plus And Park Assist, Function
- with CODE (233) Distronic Plus
- up to model year 08
Component Identification:
The systems described below belong to the drive assist systems and are offered as special equipment (SA) under the designation "DISTRONIC PLUS including BAS PLUS and Park Assistant", code 233.
Beyond conventional cruise control functions this special equipment includes the following functions:
^ DISTRONIC PLUS
^ Distance warning system
^ BAS PLUS
^ Park Assist
^ PRE-SAFE brake (from 09/2006)
^ Park Guidance (from 12/2006)
^ Automatic deactivation of the radar sensor system (from 08/2007)
^ Blind spot assistant (from 08/2007 for special equipment code 234)
DISTRONIC PLUS
DISTRONIC PLUS (DTR PLUS) uses radar sensors to keep the vehicle at a specified target distance from the preceding vehicle (the target distance is set by the driver) and provides visual and acoustic warnings to the driver before dangerous situations arise.
The electronic system automatically activates the brakes when the distance to the preceding vehicle decreases, and accelerates automatically back to the stored target speed as soon as the traffic situation allows.
Distance warning system
The proximity warning system (AWS) is an additional function of DISTRONIC PLUS.
The driver can activate or deactivate the distance warning system separately via a menu in the instrument cluster (A1) independently of the DISTRONIC PLUS distance control.
BAS PLUS
The function BAS PLUS is an additional function of the Brake Assist System (BAS), which assists the driver by means of specific calculations of the brake force. The current danger zone and the closing speed are constantly monitored. If the driver is forced to brake suddenly due to traffic, BAS PLUS ensures a quick buildup of the brake pressure calculated for the situation in hand.
PRE-SAFE brake
The PRE-SAFE brake (also known as the Collision Mitigation System (CMS)) is an additional function of DISTRONIC PLUS which supports the safety concept PRE-SAFE
The PRE-SAFE brake permanently determines the potential danger of a collision occurring and initiates appropriate measures to warn of an impending collision and possibly to mitigate the effects of a collision in critical situations.
Park Assist
The Park Assist helps the driver when parking with visual distance displays in the instrument cluster and on the rear headliner. In addition, acoustic distance warning signals alert the driver to impending collisions.
Park Guidance
The function Parking Guidance (also known as Advanced Parking Guidance (APG)) assists the driver to find an adequately long parking space and to optimally park in this space. The driver is himself responsible for estimating (plausibility) the parking gap found as well as for maneuvering of the vehicle longitudinally and laterally.
Blind Spot Assist
The blind spot assistant (also known as Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM)) supports the driver in secure execution of a lane change. In the process the Blind Spot Assistant supplies important information about the events in the rear and side area of the vehicle where the inside rearview mirror and the two outside mirrors do not offer adequate visibility (blind spots).
Automatic shutoff of the radar sensor system
Due to legal requirements on the 24 GHz radar system (short range radar) the radar sensor system from 08/2007 is automatically switched off in certain protected areas around radio astronomy stations (RAS).
Recognition of whether the vehicle is in a protected area takes place using the GPS navigation system.
Radar sensor system
In order to handle these extensive tasks, the previously used 77 GHz long range radar (DISTRONIC) is supplemented by the newly developed 24 GHz short range radar (DISTRONIC PLUS).
These new driver assistance systems improve driving safety and offer the driver substantial bonuses in terms of comfort and convenience. This helps to reduce the frequency of accidents and to minimize their consequences.
