Man-machine interface (MMI)
The MMI forms the interface between the user and the vehicle, and provides access to all functions which are displayed and controlled via the driver information system.
The following 3 components are in this interface:
^ COMAND display (A40/8) Used for displaying all functions and systems of the MMI
^ Front central operating unit (A40/9) Used for general operation of all systems of the MMI
^ COMAND controller unit (A40/3) Used for generating the MMI user interface and for displaying the operating signals of the front central operating unit
All functions of the MMI are operated using the front central operating unit. It is also possible to operate certain elements of particular functions using the following input devices:
^ Voice control system (VCS [SBS])
^ Center console button group (S148)
^ Left multifunction steering wheel pushbutton group (S110)
^ Right multifunction steering wheel pushbutton group (S111)
^ "Back" and VCS [SBS] off button (S110s4)
^ VCS on button (S111s4)
Systems directly operated with MMI
The following systems displayed in the application line can be selected and configured in the COMAND display:
^ "Navi" Navigation settings
^ "Audio" Audio component settings (radio, audio CD/DVD, MP3)
^ "Tel" Communication component settings (telephone, SMS, address book)
^ "Video" Video component settings (TV, video DVD)
^ "Vehicle" Settings for vehicle components which can be operated via COMAND display
Application groups which are not available to the user are grayed out and cannot be selected.
The COMAND display is also used by the climate control system for displaying information and for making system settings. For this purpose, separate climate functions in the COMAND display are available to the climate control system. Depending on the circuit status and system status the air conditioning functions are faded in and switched active
Other MMI setting options
The MMI can be activated and adjusted manually or automatically. It toggles between day and night design and has a full-screen mode for navigation displays and video output.
