Seat Occupant Classification Module - Air Bag: Description and Operation

GF91.60-P-4046SCU WSS (Weight Sensing System) Control Unit, Component Description
- with CODE (494) USA version

Component Identification:

Location
The WSS control unit is located at the seat frame of the front passenger seat.

Task
^ Power supply and evaluation of the seat occupied recognition pressure sensor (B48/4)
^ Power supply and evaluation of the belt tension sensor (B48/3)
^ Calculation of classification of weight on front passenger seat
^ Provision of weight classification via the interior CAN
^ Self-test of WSS control unit, seat occupied recognition pressure sensor and belt tension sensor
^ Storage of detected faults

The WSS control unit evaluates the data from the seat occupied recognition pressure sensor and the belt tension sensor. The measurements are used to assign a weight classification to the weight on the seat, which is then sent to the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) via the interior CAN and the chassis CAN for precise control of the front passenger airbag unit.

Discrete inputs
^ Circuit 30
^ Circuit 31
^ Seat occupied recognition pressure sensor data
^ Data of the belt tension sensor

Discrete outputs
^ Seat occupied recognition pressure sensor power supply
^ Belt tension sensor power supply

CAN signals
The WSS control unit is an interior CAN subscriber.
