With the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system, all calls are made with the portable CTEL (A34/6) via the hands-free system.
The user can choose one of the following options to establish a call:
^ Dialing using the portable CTEL (A34/6):
The desired phone number is entered using the telephone buttons or by selecting at telephone number from the telephone book of the portable CTEL (A34/6). If the "Accept phone call" button on the portable CTEL (A34/6) is then pressed, the telephone call is established.
^ Dialing via the respective audio device (e.g. radio (A2) (standard equipment):
The telephone buttons are used to enter the desired telephone number or to choose a telephone number from different alphabetically sorted lists (e.g. "missed calls", "dialed telephone numbers", "accepted calls" or "personal address book") by scrolling back and forth in the "Telephone" menu. If the "Accept call" button is pressed subsequently, the telephone call is established.
^ Dialing via the multifunction steering wheel (MFL):
Using the scroll forward/back button (S110s1) and the system selection button (S110s3), a telephone number can be selected from the telephone book, which is shown in the multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1). If the Accept/ terminate phone call button (S111s3) is pressed subsequently, the telephone call is established.
If the audio device is active at the beginning of a telephone call, it is muted.
Toggling
Users can switch back and forth (toggle) between 2 telephone calls. The menu selection of the audio device enables the user to toggle between the two callers. While a user talks to one person on the line, the connection to the other is put on hold. However, voice transmission is interrupted.
A conference call, i.e. simultaneous communication with several callers, is possible.
Terminating a call
The user can terminate a telephone call in one of the following ways:
^ Pressing the "Terminate phone call" button on the portable CTEL (A34/6)
^ Pressing the Accept/terminate phone call
button (S111s3) on the MFL
^ Pressing the "Terminate phone call" control button on the control panel of the audio device
