Fuel Pump: Description and Operation
GF47.20-P-2000AMG Component Description For The Fuel Pump
Both fuel pumps are installed in the fuel feed module in the right fuel tank chamber.
The fuel pump is installed in the fuel feed module in the right fuel tank chamber.
Task
The fuel pump(s) provide the fuel in an adequate quantity and at the required pressure of 4.0 to 5.5 bar (for model 216, 221 from 4.6 to 5.5 bar) to the fuel injection system (fuel manifold).
Design
The fuel pump is a two-stage dynamic pump.
A fuel strainer is installed at the bottom as a coarse filter for the fuel pump feed.
Function except model 216, 221
The left fuel pump is actuated via the left fuel pump control unit (N118/3) and the right fuel pump is actuated via the right fuel pump control unit (N118/4), single-phase controlled The fuel pumps are actuated independently of each other according to fuel requirements. They draw fuel from the fuel feed module through a fuel strainer.
The fuel pump then pumps the suctioned fuel via the fuel filter with pressure limiting valve to the fuel distributor rail. The pressure limiting valve limits the fuel pressure in this case to a maximum of 6.0 bar.
Function for model 216, 221
The left fuel pump is controlled 3-phase according to fuel requirements via the left fuel pump control unit (N118/3). It draws fuel from the fuel feed module through a fuel strainer. The fuel pump then pumps the suctioned fuel via the fuel filter with pressure limiting valve to the fuel distributor rail. The pressure limiting valve limits the fuel pressure in this case to a maximum of 6.5 bar.
