Log-in
The prerequisites of log-in include:
^ Card was inserted
^ Telephone is switched on

Enter the PIN number (personal identification number) if necessary (system-dependent).
Next, the telephone connects to the transmitting and receiving terminal (BTS) that is located the most favorably. The access to the network is granted when the mobile service switching center (MCS) has checked the required data. Thereby log-in is accomplished. The name of the network (D1 or D2) appears in the telephone display.

If the best located mobile switching center (MCS) is not the one in which the user is registered when he/she logged in his mobile telephone, he/she is registered in the visitor location register (VLR) present there.
The mobile switching center (MSC) mentioned then connects to the (home) mobile switching center (MSC) of the user and access is granted after checking the required data. The (home) mobile switching center (MSC) is automatically informed of the location of the subscriber.
A location change is updated in the (home) mobile switching center (MSC).
The (home) mobile switching center (MSC) is always informed of the present location of the subscriber and can relay incoming calls to him, however, only as long as he is logged into the system.
