GF07.61-P-0001AMG Motor Electronics (ME-SFI) Fuel Injection And Ignition System, Function

The motor electronics (ME-SFI) fuel injection and ignition system control (engine control) for engine 156 AMG which is integrated in the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) is supplied by "Bosch" and has the internal designation "ME 9.7 AMG".

The abbreviated designation "ME 9.7 AMG" means:
M = Motronic
E = Electronic accelerator pedal (electronic accelerator)
9.7 = Version 9.7
AMG = AMG specific hardware and software

The engine control in ME-SFI [ME] control unit is flashable. The software required to program the control units is provided on the STAR DIAGNOSIS DAS Update DVD.

The following systems are controlled and coordinated by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit according to the input signals:
- Ignition system
- Injection system
- Idle speed control
- Electronic accelerator
- Torque interface
- Alternator interface (LIN)
- Fuel evaporation control system
- Heat management
- Starter control
- Immobilizer and drive authorization system (FBS 3)
- Diagnosis and fault storage
- Emission control

The ME-SFI [ME] control unit evaluates the following basic information for engine control:
- Air mass
- Coolant temperature
- Engine speed and crankshaft position
- Throttle valve position
- Accelerator pedal position
- Intake manifold pressure
- Intake air temperature
- Fuel pressure
- Fuel tank pressure (at (USA))
- Inlet and exhaust camshaft position
- Alternator interface
- Knocking of engine
- Oil level
- Oil temperature
- O2 concentration upstream and downstream of the firewall catalytic converter

Further input signals the ME-SFI [ME] control unit receives via the CAN data bus (Controller Area Network) are, for example:
- Vehicle speed
- Torque requirements
- Drive position and gear position recognition
- Cruise control or DISTRONIC specifications
- Brake recognition
- Steering angle
- Start enable (drive authorization system)
- Crash signal
- Fuel level

According to the equipment and the model, individual control units are networked with each other via the CAN data bus. The following control units networked with the ME-SFI [ME] control unit are responsible for the engine control:
- Instrument cluster (A1)
- EIS [EZS] control unit (N73)
- Steering column module (N80)
- Restraint systems control unit (N2/7/)
- AAC [KLA] control unit (N22/1) (for model 216, 221)
- Comfort AAC [KLA] control and operating unit (N22/7) (except model 216, 221)
- Electric controller unit (VGS) (Y3/8)
- ESP control unit (N47-5) (except model 209)
- ESP and BAS control unit (N47-5) (for model 209)
- Central gateway control unit (N93) (except model 209)
- Electronic selector lever module control unit (N15/5) (for model 209, 211, 219)
- Intelligent servo module for DIRECT SELECT (A80) (for model 164, 216, 221, 251)
- Front SAM control unit (N10) (for model 164, 251)
- Rear SAM control unit (N10/8) (for model 164, 251)
- Front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) (for model 209, 216, 221)
- Driver-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) (for model 211, 219)
- Rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) (for model 211, 216, 219, 221)
