The trip computer (RRE) can display the trip time. This is in fact similar to the stopwatch function. The display takes place as of position 2 (circuit 15 ON) of the transmitter key (A8/1), if the trip computer is called up via the menu item "Trip". Once the menu item "Trip" has been activated via the system selection button (S110s3) of the multifunction steering wheel (MFL), by pressing the scroll forward/back button (S110s1) of the multifunction steering wheel the travel time "After start" or "After reset" is shown in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1). The travel time is calculated in the instrument cluster. However, as the travel time is only measured with "circuit 15 ON", the instrument cluster needs the information about the position of the transmitter key in the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73).
This information is placed on the interior CAN by the EIS [EZS] control unit, passed on to the central gateway control unit (N93) and transmitted from this on the central CAN. Through the central CAN the information about the position of the transmitter key is passed on to the instrument cluster.
If the display of travel time or travel distance exceeds the maximum display value, the travel time and travel distance is reset automatically. This serves to retain relationship between the trip time and the travel distance. Resetting the travel time and mileage is triggered when the travel time exceeds 999 h or the mileage 9999 km.
