GF54.50-P-2007SX Fuel Consumption, Function
- up to model year 08

Shown on model 221 up to 31.8.06

Fuel consumption "as of start" (short-distance memory)
The average fuel consumption since the start is shown

Shown on model 221 up to 31.8.06

Fuel consumption "as of reset" (long-distance memory)
The average fuel consumption since the last reset is shown.

The average fuel consumption is displayed as of position 2 (terminal 15 ON) of the transmitter key (A8/1) when the menu item "trip" is called up. Whether the display takes place in kilometers or miles depends on the coding of the national version of the instrument cluster (A1). Once the menu item "Trip" has been activated with the system selection button (S110s3) of the multifunction steering wheel (MFL), by pressing the scroll forward/back button (S110s1) of the multifunction steering wheel the average fuel consumption "After start" or "After reset" is shown in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster. The trip computer determines the average fuel consumption using the travel distance covered and the calculated fuel consumption. The instrument cluster receives this data in the following way:
^ The value of the calculated fuel consumption is placed as a message on the chassis CAN by the ME control unit (N3/10) or by the CDI control unit (N3/9) (model 221 only), passed on to the central gateway control unit (N93) and transmitted to the instrument cluster by the central CAN.
^ The travel distance covered is determined from the 4 wheel speeds. The signals are received by the ESP control unit (N47-5) and placed on the chassis CAN, passed on to the central gateway control unit and transmitted to the instrument cluster via the central CAN.

Different values may be shown in the display screen of the short-distance memory and that for the long-distance memory, as both displays access different data records. The display of the short-distance memory responds significantly more sensitively to the current driving situation than the display for the long-distance memory. The consumption statistic since the last "Start" or "Reset" is reset automatically when 9999 h or 99.999 km is reached.

Once the memory has been reset there is not sufficient data available to calculate the fuel consumption correctly In order to bridge this condition, during this time a value calculated via the vehicle-specific consumption is displayed depending on the coding of the national version of the instrument cluster. This value can differ from the effective instantaneous fuel economy. The display limit lies at a maximum 40 l/100 km.
