GF82.85-P-2007RJ Telephone Mode, Function
- with CODE (498) Japan version
The Personal Digital Cellular (PDC) mobile telephone standard is used for vehicles sold on the Japanese market. A PDC portable CTEL bracket is installed in the vehicle's driver information system. In order to use the cellular telephone function, the user must insert a portable CTEL (A34/6) that is compatible with the Japanese cellular telephone system (PDC) into the PDC portable CTEL bracket. The portable CTEL (A34/6) is connected to a standard connection for PDC cellular phones and is thus connected directly to the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). A serial data line is used to exchange control and data signals between the portable CTEL (A34/6) and the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).
The PDC portable CTEL bracket is installed in the telephone compartment of the center console under the armrest. The portable CTEL (A34/6) must be inserted into the PDC portable CTEL bracket before the user can make or receive a telephone call. Display of the telephone functions is effected on the portable CTEL display (A34/6), in the left multifunction display (A1p13) and the right multifunction display (A1p15) as well as on the COMAND operating, display and control unit display (A40/3).
When the portable CTEL (A34/6) is inserted into the PDC Portable CTEL bracket, the driver cannot make a phone call in "private mode". The Internet function and service functions are only available when the vehicle is stationary and the parking brake is applied.
The following telephone functions are possible with the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3):
^ Switch portable CTEL (A34/6) on and off with the "TEL" pre- assigned button on the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).
^ Telephone book administration.
^ The phone directory of the portable CTEL (A34/6) can be downloaded onto the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). Existing entries can be deleted and new entries can be added using the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3)
^ Making a call using numbers in the memory:
The following functions are available for making a call using numbers in the memory :
^ Personal numbers, mailbox, selected call numbers, answered calls, unanswered calls
^ Dialing in via directory
^ Manual dialing using 12x telephone keypad
^ Dialing in from calls received/numbers last dialed or numbers last received
^ Select an emergency contact number from the memory
^ Conference call with up to 3 parties possible
Voice commands using the voice control system (VCS)
Voice control should relieve the driver during a journey. It should enable intuitive functional operation and provide the driver with access to a series of functions, without distracting him/her from the traffic. The voice control system is operated using software integrated into the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).
The user can activate the voice control using the SBS switch (S93/2). A signal, generated in the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), sounds when the voice control system is ready for operation. Following this, the user can communicate with the VCS system, whereby the VCS system only supports the Japanese language.
The following components can be controlled via the VCS system:
^ Telephone components
^ Audio and TV components
^ Navigation components
^ Help function (with command display on COMAND operating, display and control unit display (A40/3))
On Japanese cellular telephones, the number, name and a phonetic spelling of the name are stored in the phone directory. If the phone directory is transferred to the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), all the directory entries are available immediately, also for the voice control system.
If problems occur with the command input by the user, the system responds with an appropriate command. This is generated in the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), relayed to the sound amplifier (A2/13) (model 230.467 with Code (810) Sound system) and output via the vehicle speakers.
