GF82.60-P-2020RI Media Interface Function

GF82.60-P-2020RI Media Interface Function
- with CODE (518) Media interface

Function requirements
^ Status "Circuit 30 ON" or "Circuit 15R ON"

General
The media interface function is also called a Universal Consumer Electronic Interface (UCI). It allows the following portable terminals to be connected to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) via an adapter cable, the media interface connector (X18/69), the media interface control unit (N125/1) and the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST):
- AUX devices (class 1)
- iPod or serial USB devices (Media Transfer Protocol (MTP)) (class 2)
- Special USB devices (mass storage device) (class 3)

AUX devices without control can be connected to the AUX jack.
iPods can be connected to the iPod connector.
USB devices can be connected to the USB jack.
MTP devices can be connected to the USB jack and AUX jack.

The conventional AUX jack installed in the glove box is eliminated.

Operating instructions
The portable devices listed are controlled using one of the following controls:
- Buttons on COMAND controller unit
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)

Menu guidance and graphic display of the menu guidance is accomplished on the COMAND control unit display and is dependent on the specific portable terminal connected.

Function sequence
The media interface control unit is supplied with power over 2 direct lines (circuit 31 and circuit 30). If a portable device is connected, it is recognized by the media interface control unit over the following path:
- Adapter cable
- Media interface connector

The media interface control unit then transmits an electrical wake-up signal to the COMAND controller unit via a direct line. If the COMAND controller unit was not already switched on, it is now switched on and activates (wakes up) the MOST at the same time.

Simultaneously, the audio signals and data are transmitted from the connected portable device to the COMAND controller unit as follows:
- Adapter cable
- Media interface connector
- Media interface control unit
- MOST

The video signals and data are transmitted via direct lines from the media interface connector to the COMAND controller unit (except for vehicles with code (498) Japan version).
The user can display the audio signals and data or video signals and data on the display of the COMAND controller unit by selecting the "UCI" menu item as well as the specific submenu item (playlists, artists, albums, genres or audio books). The video signals and data are transmitted internally to the display of the COMAND controller unit.

Selection of the "UCI" menu item and the specific submenu item is possible using one of the following controls:
- Buttons on COMAND controller unit
- Multifunction steering wheel button group

The control signals from the buttons of the COMAND control unit are processed internally.
The control signals of the multifunction steering wheel button groups are transferred to the COMAND control unit over the following path:
- Direct line
- Steering column tube module (N80)
- Interior CAN

After evaluation of the control signals in the COMAND controller unit, they are then sent to the connected portable terminal as follows:
- MOST
- Media interface control unit
- Media interface connector
- Adapter cable

The connected portable terminal evaluates the control signals and transmits the corresponding audio signals and data to the COMAND controller unit as follows:
- Adapter cable
- Media interface connector
- Media interface control unit
- MOST

The video signals and data are transmitted via direct lines from the media interface connector to the COMAND controller unit (except code (865) TV tuner).

The video signals and data are shown internally on the display of the COMAND controller unit.
On vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the audio signals and data are output by the COMAND controller unit via the MOST to the amplifier for sound system (N40/3) and from there, via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left door speaker group (H4/1)
- Right door speaker group (H4/2)
- Left rear speaker (H4/7)
- Right rear speaker (H4/8)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)

The audio signals for the subwoofer (H4/29) travels from the COMAND control unit to the amplifier for the sound system via MOST and from there, via direct lines to the subwoofer amplifier (N40/9) and then to the subwoofer speaker.

On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the audio signals and data are output by the COMAND control unit over discrete lines to the following speakers:
- Left door speaker group (H4/1)
- Right door speaker group (H4/2)
- Left rear speaker (H4/7)
- Right rear speaker (H4/8)
