AR54.10-P-0006R Treatment of Battery When Laying Up Vehicle







DANGER:
- Risk of explosion from electrolytic gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury with caustic burns to eyes and skin from battery electrolyte or from handling damaged lead-acid batteries
- No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and eye protection. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.



1 Switch telephone to Service mode

NOTE: Vehicles with code (855) Tele Aid, refer to Operating instructions for telephone

2 Remove key from electronic ignition switch

NOTE:
- Vehicle with code (889) Keyless Go:
- Switch off engine, remove Keyless Go cards from the vehicle and keep outside the range of the transmitter.

3 Check on-board electrical system battery (G1) and starter battery (G1/4)
- Determine findings, if necessary charge battery

4 Disconnect ground cable of battery

NOTE:
- Only disconnect the ground cable (W10) from the on-board electrical system battery (G1).
- Discharge of battery by quiescent current consumers (e.g. clock etc.) is prevented. The on-board electrical system battery and starter battery are isolated from each other by a cut-off relay.
- Installation: After connecting, read out fault memory, set time on instrument cluster, code radio, calibrate power windows and activate steering angle sensor.
- Vehicles with stationary heater: Set time for stationary heater.

5 Charge batteries

NOTE:
- Every 4 weeks.
- On no account leave battery in discharged state otherwise sulfate deposits will form on the plates. Plates with sulfate deposits indicate initial damage to the battery and result in premature failure.

6 Install in the reverse order
