DANGER:
- Risk of explosion from electrolytic gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury with caustic burns to eyes and skin from battery electrolyte or from handling damaged lead-acid batteries
- No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking. Wear add-resistant gloves, clothing and eye protection. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.
1 Switch TELE AID emergency call system to Service mode
NOTE: With CODE (855) TELE AID. This ensures that the additional battery is not discharged and no emergency call signal is transmitted, refer to owner's manual.
2.1 Switch off ignition and remove the key from the electronic ignition/starter switch (EIS)
2.2 Switch off engine and remove the Keyless Go card from the vehicle
NOTE: With CODE (889) Keyless Go. Keep the Keyless Go card outside of the transmitting range.
3 Remove ventilation grille (5) from air inlet
NOTE: Unclip both hook catches on ventilation grille.
4 Unscrew nut and remove retaining clip (4)
5 Slacken nut and disconnect ground cable (1) from starter battery (G1/4)
6 Lift off positive terminal cover (3)
7 Slacken nut and disconnect positive cable (2) from starter battery (G1/4)
8 Remove starter battery (G1/4)
NOTE: when replacing the starter battery, refit the venting reservoir on the new battery.
9 Install in the reverse order
CAUTION: All electrical consumers must be switched off. Connect first the positive lead (2) and then the ground cable (1); risk of damage to electrical and electronic components.
10 Activate steering angle sensor
11 Normalize power windows

13 Set time on electronic clock
